MSD Ignition

Is any one running the MSD ignition on an early 911. I was trying to research the idea of putting the MSD unit on my '71 911 s or not. I have the webber carbs and I wanted to find out if there are any advantages to running this setup as opposed to the cap and rotor.

thanks

Buy Wayne's book, 101 projects.

it has a great section on installing the MSD.

I think it's a great upgrade. you can go to msd.com and they can sell you on it.

you still keep your cap and rotor.

I ran a MSD 6AL and a SS blaster coil on my 73 911.

You will most likely have to send your tach out to North Hollywood or Palo Alto Tachometer company to have the tach serviced, this way it will work with the MSD setup.

I had a tach adapter from MSD installed but my tach still did not work.

I ended up sending my tach to North Hollywood Tach.

You won't need the tach adaptor after North Hollywood fixes the tach.

Talking Thanks

Thanks for your responses. I am beginning to like this website more and more. It does look like there is a bit of work involved in getting the MSD unit connected but it looks like its worth it. I will continue to do more research. It looks like it would be about $500 to get it running so I'll need to wait a bit on that. If you have any other advice I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

zac

Start and idle are improved significantly with carbs. Recommend it.
