GT3 Muffler install on 3.6 air cooled

I recently purchased this and will be getting it installed next week on my 80sc.

Lightly modified 3.6 w/ ss cams and Wong chip. William Knight headers. Will be using the loud ports only.

What is best way to clean and polish this up?

Any pro tips I need to be aware of before I speak to shop doing the install?

Appreciate it.

Here is a titanium unit I detailed. Cleaned up the Ti with a metal polish to bring the original color back, wiped it down with a panel wipe to remove all the oils from the abrasive and fingerprints, put a ceramic coating on it that's suitable for bare metal. Added some Silverlake GT3 tips and now its ready for install. Full process took maybe 1.5hrs, looks as close to factory as a car that's been started and lot driven, and it will be far easier to keep looking clean this way

A stainless unit will be the same process

THAT ceramic is good up to 600F, I also did the headers with it- thought process is that it 'protects' what it does, and if some burns off then it's minor time and money lost. Whole goal is to be able to keep it looking as good as possible and keep it easy to clean given the car IS driven

polished up and ready to go. I haven’t decided on a clear coating yet. Any recommendations?

Jon,

We’re those the original tips that started out black? I really like the result.

One suggestion in terms of keeping things so clean looking is to consider using clear Cerakote. It has an added bonus in that it acts as a heat insulator.

Tonger these are ebay specials I found for $112 so cheap we will see how durable they are. I kept the originals so I will refurbish them eventually. Cerakote sounds appealing I don’t drive in rain or bad weather so I’m not expecting it to corrode at all. It was easy to clean up so if I’m wrong I’ll just refinish it again.

DetailDivision--its not quiet thats for sure but after some more time driving it I've decided that its the tone of the exhaust under power that really is great. It s good mix of high/low frequencies that my previous muffler lacked (the lower tones were not there and a little raspy to my liking). The idle is somewhat loud but not terrible and if you are not getting on it the db's are not obnoxious however it opens up hard when you get on it and really rips up top. It wasnt cheap but it was worth it on my 3.6. I will try to put together some sound clips this weekend.

I picked up a fiberglass under bumper valance to replace the metal factory valance that had 3 cutouts for the various muffler tips I’ve had over the years. The quality was not great so I didn’t spend too much time preparing it just sand, prime and paint with rattle can. It’s presentable just don’t get too close!

Still waiting on that sound clip!

Looks great, I have a GT3 muffler for my 79' SC but fairly certain my stock 3.0l will not be too happy with something that flows so much.

Here we go with sound. I’ve always thought mufflers sound so much better under load.
