In my 1987 3.2 in 5th gear at 3200 rpm what pressure does everyones Druck guage read? What should it read?

Rule of thumb is 1 bar per 1000 RPM. Therefore, you should read approx. 3 bar of oil pressure.

My 87's always reads a little higher than the 1 bar guide. At 3200, my gauge would be around 3.5-3.8

My '87 shows between 3 and 4 bar at that engine speed. Closer to 4.

Generally depending upon the oil temp 3200 will show anywhere for 3.25 bar (really hot) and 4 bar (cool).

It's my understanding that as low as 10 psi per 1000 is ok, but most people seem to run higher.

There is a cheap upgrade for oil pressure. You can replace the cam oil line bolts with the 964 restricter fittings. They're about $5 per piece, take less than 5 min. to install and give a better spray and higher oil pressure.

I still have the Carrera and I recently bought 50 episodes of Beavis & Butthead on eBay. I still drink Pabst, still buy Pez regularly, I just have a 993 now too.

Don, I'm so poor now that I can't afford to pay attention. Luckily, I do my own reloading sometimes too.

Matt,
I have similar high pressure readings, and was also wondering if it's bad for it to be that high. But there's no 'red line' on the OP guage, so I guess it's Ok? I know the sender and guage are working, because it's down lower at idle.

It’s probably a bad sender or connection. I had the same problem until I changed the sender.

Ok, here's how mine behaves: At idle it's between 1- 1 1/2. Around 2K rpm it's about 3 bar. Around 3K rpm it's about 4 bar. Anything above 3200 or so it reads close to 5 bar. All this is after it's warmed up. Does this sound reasonable?

My notes said that a Carrera '87 should have 4 bar of oilpressure at 5000 rpm.
