Calling all Recaro experts :: New-to-me Recaro Seat

Hi Everyone:

I just happened across a seemingly nice Recaro seat and intend to install it in my 71 911T. Before embarking on the processa, I hoped to gain a little insight from the experts.

Just a few questions:

1. I am pretty sure this is an LS seat, but I don’t know if it’s an LSA … LSB … or something else. Does anyone recognize this?

2. My research suggests that the Wedge Engineering mounts (sold by a certain NLA parts vendor) will make install relatively straightforward. Is that a fair statement? Any other tips/tricks re install?

3. The seat is missing the tilt-forward lever. It looks like replacements are sold in a number of places, including eBay. What is the best (most original) option? Is it fair to assume that the level will just pop in and function, provided there isn’t something terribly wrong with the mechanism?

Last but not least (and certainly a LONG SHOT) does anyone have a matching passenger seat collecting dust or have any suggestions as to where I might be able to source one?

Thanks in advance!

Excellent seats but tend to sit too high for my liking with flat adapters into standard mounting points. Lowering the seat base at the rear to provide more rake to the base and under knee support really helps fit, support, comfort and headroom.

I ended up making a custom mount solution .. C section between the seat base and slider which adapts early wide and later narrow track. And angled bracket between the car and slider .. it took a lot of trial and error to get to work properly .. but now it does they’re supportive and comfortable.

Awesome, thanks. This appeared to be an LSB to my eyes. Appreciate you solving that one for me.

As for fitment/height, I am replacing standard/comfort seats in my 71. My hope is that the seating position realized with the Wedge mounts will be lower than it is at present.

I’ll look at adding rake, as you suggest. That would be sweet.

Rosco, do you have any pics of the mods you made? I’ve never tried to retrofit aftermarket seats, so sorry for the noob question.

I’m considering LSC’s for my 911SC, and am curious which car you’ve had these in? The SC seat rails are mounted higher than earlier and later 911s as I’m sure you know, and the stock seats in my car sit ridiculously high. I was hoping that the LS seats would be an improvement in this regard. But from what you’re saying they still sit high?

The slope is not slippery; in fact it is entirely frictionless.

The flat seat adapter plate which bolts directly into the early (mine ‘72) chassis creates a flat platform for the sliders and seat. However the seat sat quite high, my head was almost touching the roof (I’m 6’) and didn’t have much rake for under thigh support. If SC’s have higher mounts, this would not help you!

These pics show the C section attached to the seat and rails below. Angled brackets fit into the car. These are the complex parts angling in multiple directions. Took several iterations to get a working design, it’s a tight fit.

you would need L brackets on your seat with 3 mounting holes for height

Evan,

I have Recaros in my SC - they have an LX back and an A cushion, I'm not sure exactly how old they are but suspect they're a similar age to the car. I mounted them using Recaro double-locking sliders to the factory mounting holes in the pan. My H point is at least an inch lower than stock, probably an inch and a half.

I have a seat that matches in type but not in trim, it's cloth. It’s also on England, which isn’t insurmountable. If you get stuck, get in touch

Are those mounting originals? Would you please kindly share some pics of the actual original seats? My 73S came with wrong 76 seats and I'm in the process of changing them back to original specs. Any suggestions anyone whether to buy original or new ones? Thanks to all for helping.

No, the originals had tilting. Since you are in Switzerland, you are in luck.

Thanks, Rosco. You have been a huge help. I admit, I am a little concerned about seat height now. Perhaps my stock comfort seats were rebuilt extra tall on the bottom padding though …

Thanks, Ian. I will keep you in mind. I managed to source an LX-C seat for the passenger side. My current thinking is … my wife will enjoy the added adjustability and reduced bolstering.

If my eye simply can’t take the appearance of two different front seats, I will reach out. Much appreciated.
