Potential cylinder temp sensor issue
 

My 86 3.2 has had a recent issue with starting. If I drive the car for a short time to run an errand then try to start it it wont start up again. If I let it sit till it cools down back to a low temperature it will finally fire up again. If the car is hot and at running temperature it will always start up again. On a couple occasions I could jiggle the white connector on the 3 plug tree and the car would start up again. I did have the Temp sensor replaced about 15,000 miles ago because it was disintegrating.
My question. Is there a chance the temp sensor has a fault in it at a certain temperature range that is effecting it from starting when its is in a warm condition? not cold or hot but warm. Do these sensors go bad periodically?
Or could this be related to something else?

Your issue sounds very similar to the one I had when the DME relay on my '86 targa started failing -- its cold soldier joints would cause it to fail after short trips. In my case, tapping it a bit would also get my car to fire up and drive me home. Replacing my DME relay with a spare (which us Carrera owners should all be carrying around anyway) conclusively resolved this for me.

Thanks for that input. Ya I do carry a spare DME and have switched it during the times it would not start. As usual with the older cars there is probably some area like soldier joints or ground connection causing this. Its just a bit of a pain trying to go through and trouble shoot where it could be.
