Formal Protest: Why was my post moved to "Off Topic"

As I am planning the design and prototyping of a couple of pieces for my Carrera I figured I'd post seeking guidance on the very technical subject of Machine tools.

Now why would a post like this be pushed off to "Misc / Off Topic" and posts showing pics of a street 917 or organizing cruises be allowed to stay on?

I am upset.

BTW, I have nothing against the two types of posts I mentioned as I enjoy reading them.

I agree and feel that yours is the same as the "garage pics" and "car lift" type thread (which I like).

I was very surprised that your post was moved.

Rick,
I guess you should have used the word P O R S C H E somewhere in your post, or the number 9 1 1 ???? ....;-)

new world order. the snowman diatribes have tightened up the rules.

Perhaps you should have explained in the post why you are asking about the machine tools. Else it ends up looking like the non-relevent posts about windows 2000 to some.

I too find this type of post of value. A lot of us are into fabrication of parts for our cars.

Shouldn't this post be moved to off-topic as well?;)

Perhaps moderators should give the reason WHY in the post instead of the sometimes arbitrary unexplained moves.

if you had mentioned that you were going to use it for a fabricated 911 part, I'll bet it wouldn't have been moved. I looked at your post, and there was not a single thing related to Porsches, ownership, or even cars. So what part isn't off-topic?

I realize that the area is very gray, but your post without context is 100% off topic for this board. Since it was the first in the thread, it get's more scrutiny...

I guess Todd is right. Even a cupholder thread can be on this forum if it,s in a 911. Why not post a new thread about what you want to fabricate for your Carrera ?

Why not off topic it back to the 911 forum?

Aside from this creating more work for the moderators, I think it's a good idea.

I didn't move the machine tool post, either. Tool talk generally fits somewhere into my 911 tech 'food pyramid' of what's allowed to stay -- but it probably would have helped if you mentioned a 911-specific context for the question.

911 Tech Forum moderators can't move posts from other forums. Once it's moved, it's stuck, unless Wayne moves it back.

I'm not looking to create a stink here. I simply thought since I posted this on a 911 tech forum it would be handled in that context. I feel it's silly that I have to type the word Porsche in the text, although I did consider it.

I see this as no different than the "Which MIG welder do I buy?" posts.

In any case if a moderator decides it's suitable to move back I'd appreciate it. If not no hard feelings. Several members have replied with valuable info.
