Fuse to the Clock
 

1977 911S. Fues to the Clock was blown. it waas fine for the past 10 years noticed it today. Also the light for the hand brake stays on too. Are they connected or related. Tried putting in a new Fues #8 and it blew again. I disconnected the battery first, then when I reconnected the battery the Fues blew again. Any suggestions?

1977 according to my owners manual. the #18 fuse for clock is 5 amp ties to the clock and all interior, glovebox, and trunk lights.
Might be in the switches at glove box or doors. Check these locations for shorts.
Don’t discount mice this time of year doing some gnawing. Check for droppings in trunk near battery especially if you’re using a battery tender.

Handbrake Brake Warning dash light is not part of the same interior lighting circuit as I recall with a similar issue and totally separate - I had both no clock and steady Brake light.

The Fuse that was in there that was blown was the #8 Fues. Maybe thats why? I don't think is mine as I have had no mice here ever. I do know a chimp muck got in the garage a few weeks ago? But I caught it in a cage let it go in the forest. Also the glove box light is out too

After I posted the comment I realized the fuse chart in manual and the actual panel in my 77 aren’t exactly alike. Vaguely recall a fuse somewhere in the center of my panel was blown. Fuse #1 is closest to the front of car, #18 is last towards windshield. So the #8 would be in the middle. Not sure why, my panel is original and never rewired or add-on accessories. Not sure if Yellow is 5amp and White is 8amp. One other thing I read is sometimes the headliner replacement interferes with wiring can cause short to that circuit. Had a few gremlins and did notice glove box light switch terminal was in a peculiar angle would spark when replacing a heater hose back there.
Curious, if your fuse panel is original can you post a photo? I’ll try and pull a fuse tomorrow to see which one powers my clock/lights.

Ok thanks the Fues was #8 white and has been working fine for 10 plus years until recently. I am pretty sure it the original Fues box as well. but I will take a picture

I just pulled my #8 and it was not for my clock.
I pulled #18 and it cut power to clock and interior lights.
Here’s what my fuse block looks like, a 18 fuses, no factory air co.
Note the #18 location and it’s the black wire that powers clock and other interior lamps. The black wire may have come loose from bottom terminal screw post.

If you do not have an owners manual, included is the page for fuses.

It’s been awhile but I had dealer installed air cond removed, I believe that was wired to the #18 or #17 red 25 amp fuse which was also burned out.
Also check and verify if your #8 fuse is wired to the Left Hi-beam.

Another thing I found - give the clock a little tap, it might need a firm knock or two to start up ticking. That was the case with mine when it sat without power, now it will run a minute or two slow every few months.

And for what it’s worth - DON’T set the time by turning dials backwards. Make complete clockwise revolutions !

The fuse that blew was the #18 Fues it was white #8 and my Fues box is a 21 total Fues box

Last year I had a tech put a vintage style radio in the car and I called him He had it fixed in 30 minutes as it turned out the rear dome light had a short. All good now.
