elephant front oil cooler fitment question - mystery part interfering

After being away from the 911 SC pcar for almost a decade (moving abroad, having kids, and coming back), it is finally back in my hands/garage. Re-ownership started with a CA->CO road trip where the car ran much hotter than memory serves. Long story short, I found that the oil lines running to the front cooler had been crushed flat just under the jack receiver on the passenger side.

Thus, I'm undertaking my first project in a while -- installing elephant racing finned oil lines and widemouth cooler for future-proofing the cooling system. After some fiddling, the lines are in place and I'm working on getting the cooler installed. My SC has a mystery (to me, anyway) bracket/? mounted in the passenger side front wheel well on the inside of the blinker assembly that is in the way of the cooler install. See the pic. What is it? There does not seem to be a corresponding matching part on the driver side.

As always, thanks for any and all help!

If I recall right it's a bit of extra crash or bump protection to keep the oil cooler safe. It's not necessary to keep. It can take some doing but the cooler should fit with it in place, but if you give up and take it out that's okay too, mine is on the shelf in the garage.

Might want to double check the lower mount

Just FYI. The carrera coolers do not use the same mounting locations as the trombone cooler. The pic could be changing the perspective a little. But if you buy a new lower mount it has to be mounted farther forward than the holes from the trombone cooler.

Thanks for the replies. After trying for awhile, I determined that there was no way for the elephant cooler to fit with that piece in place, so out it came. And yes, it is clear that the bottom of the cooler ends up much further forward than the trombone cooler mounting position and tilts a bit with the top towards the rear of the car -- in the pic I couldn't get the cooler into the correct position because of the offending piece.

In any case, the cooler is now roughly in place and I'm ready to drill and install rivnuts for the installation. Horns are re-mounted out of the way and I hope the rest goes smoothly. Fingers crossed.
Thanks all for your help!
