‘69 headlight ring seal fitment

New to me ‘69 912, a pretty good 2 owner driver, owned by the second owner for 47 years! Seems he kept it up very well mechanically, so verifying that while starting a list of cosmetic issues to sort out. The headlight ring fitment was wonky, so I got replacements from our host. Upon removal of the old ones, shocked to see not only 3M adhesive in the J channel they mount in, but what appears to be bathroom caulk!

I think I have orientation of new seals, but want to confirm; can you advise? See photo of old seal piece in cleaned out channel.

Got both channels cleaned of ‘caulk’ and 3M, installed with some help from other threads here on Pelican, now I can check that item off the list Thanks Pelican!
