Engine Sheet Metal - What color black?
Hi,
Is the engine sheet metal gloss black, satin black or flat black? My pieces seem to be a mixture of gloss and flat and I would like to return it to original. Thanks, nick 1970 911 E (still restoring) |

Satin or semi gloss. Some satins are damn near flat. I had some sheet metal powter coated satin black and it came out spectacular. It's the way to go. But, I bought some satin in a gallon can for my trailer frame and it's almost flat. I'm mixing in some gloss for the next coat.

I painted mine Silver (I know that isnt the question) but for a hot rod it sure makes seeing things alot easier in there. Of couse the oil and dirt shows up too 8<)

Al Reed powdercoated mine in Satin Black and it looks great. I imagine flat would take hold of too much oil and road grime as well. I would go with the powdercoating. It just holds up better and probably takes just as much time to do a paint job yourself if you have a powdercoater near by. The cost is minimal.
