Write up for EMPI PMO's
well just installled a new set of pmo 40's on my 2.7 cis motor "I dont care about your opinions on cis vs efi vs carbs"
at first glance everything looked alright minus 1 mixture screw was broken "not the biggest of issues but annoying" install went pretty straight forward until I turned on the fuel pump, EVERY single piece of hardware was loose. Yet again not the biggest of problems but you'd think for the price of these things they would tighten down all the hardware. they only supply 1 vacuum port plug, both manifolds are drilled and tapped for vacuum. the supplied fuel filters do not fit, 1 end is threaded and unless I'm wrong I have no idea how they're installed next I discover the accelerator pump arms hit the manifolds, they have to be clearanced about 2mm next the rain hat baseplates have to be significantly modified otherwise they hang over into the bore by a couple of MMhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1697927249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1697927249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1697927249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1697927249.jpg |

I’m interested in your experience and will be following. Regarding height. I’ve seen that PMO manifolds come in 16 different versions for various port sizes, shapes (CIS, motronic, early) and Two heights. There are 16 versions x 2 if you consider color choice. Did you get a choice of manifold with the carbs? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
yes, they make you order manifolds separately now
FYI if are going to run isolators you will need longer intake studs "50 mm overall length" PMO does not include isolators or studs everything is ala carte now |
I got a new set of manifolds from Richard (so I assume pre-EMPI) for my older PMO 50s, and also had the clearance issue with the accelerator pump actuating arm.
I don't love to hear that the QC has gone down since the change in ownership, but honestly it's not terribly surprising. |
I was really hoping for better
EMPI in recent years has stepped up their game in the VW world after decades of letting us down |
@Aztim that style filter may screw into the carb in place of the fuel inlet fitting. Or at least PMO configured them that way at one point.
Don't know what to say about the filter base plates, that's just poor. |
the same studs that secure the velocity stacks are how the baseplate is mounted

that thought had occurred to me but the thread on the supplied filters is much too small |
Perhaps there is a reducer fitting missing
|
Forget those filters and run larger ones in the fuel hoses.

I need to make a correction to my statement about the filter bases, turns out the ones I bought were for webers

Lol yup
If those holes are covered they create a really odd scenario. Needless to say they are there now |
