Slightly OT: fast beemer

I know that you guys don't like dragracing but I just came home from local "test your car on the dragstrip" event and saw few things that really impressed me. There were many fast cars but one of them really caught my attention:

That is E30 M3 beemer....2.3L four-banger with huge turbo kit and sequential gearboc (no, not Lenco drag-race gearbox but WRC-style sequential box). Rear-axle is more or less stock, independent suspension (no solid drag axle etc.)

Guess how fast it went dow the quarter mile?

9.91 seconds at it's best!!! That's LESS THEN TEN SECONDS quarter mile ... wow! ET was 149 miles as far as i remember...that friggin car accellerates 0 to 150 miles per hour in ten seconds blank, w/o V8, gigantic rear tires or super-tuned drag suspension. It even had decent set of brakes and i bet it could be driven around the track pretty quicky. I'll try to dig out video of it's sub 10-sec run as soon as it appears on internet...

Plain wierd...

(Edit)
Correction, his best run was 9,76sek w/ 238km/h ET!

This 964 RSR 3.8 went really good, but sometihing in the gearbox went wrong while shifting to 3:rd gear so it got stuck there. I tried to talk him into removing plastic shield so he could check if it was just shift-coupler that desintergrated but he believed it was shift-fork in tranny that got bent...car was stuck in 3:rd gear and shifter couldn't be moved sideways.

I believe it got 13.7 sec time while riding on rev limiter into finish:

I snapped heaps of pictures, i'll try to download it from my camera today. Beemer video should be online very soon....it's wickedly fast!!!

It also had most severe shift-backfire i ever heard (sounded like a cannon-fire each time he shifted)

Project is comming along fine...but slow! We got our tranny lock and bought new MIG-weld gear. Mattias wants to convert to coilovers in the back so that's new big part that needs to get done.

There is slight difference between 9.76 and 10.41 sec. Also, beemer didn't have drag-suspension in the back... it was fully independent and car had it's original 2.3L four-banger (albeit in ultra-tuned form).

yep.........it's called front drive/rear drive
gary is running a pretty standard suspension on the k-car....but it has been stripped to bare essentials
either way.......anything running the 1/4 under 11's is just fast as fark

OK. For your convinience, I have converted this clip into plain MPEG which everybody should be able to view...sound is at least as important as video :-)

File is slightly better quality and bigger in size now (5 MB), so it's for DSL-folks only.
