Passenger window switch location
 

Totally trivial, similar to the armrest topic... I purchased new OE style AppBiz door panels. I purchased the replacement switch clips and had AppBiz install them. However, they opened the rear punch-out, whereas my originals located the switch in the front one.

Bob at AppBiz said it's 50/50 which location the passenger side switch is in. I've searched out several dozen photos, and can't find any that show switch in the rear spot. Can anyone confirm if the rear spot for the single passenger switch was ever used?

On my '87 coupe it's the front spot.

Both my 86's the passenger switch is the front cutout. - just went out and double checked for you.

I believe that the board is the same on the left and right, it just depends which side they upholster, so there are two cutouts to allow it to be used in either orientation. The drivers side has two cutouts in the metal inner door for two switches. Check that the passenger side has two cutouts, otherwise, the your switch will not fit into the inner door.

Agreed, I expect the dual punch-outs in the card and door frame are for universal support of LHD and RHD markets. I think moving my pass switch to the rear location is doable. The wires seem a little short, but might have some play.

I am trying to NOT be a nit-picky arse about. If I can find a single example of an original car with the switch in the rear spot, I'd probably live with it. I mean, it seems like a waste and hassle to get them replaced, for both me and AppBiz. But, it doesn't seem right. Does it? Any opinions?

Man, I hate when I order/fix/replace things and they are not what they should be or what I expect them to be as new/repaired, etc.

I never regret sending things back and having it done the way I am comfortable with. I've got a couple 911's and two older Land Rovers that have had quite a bit of interior work done. I've gotten the comment "well no one will see it" or worse "you'll be the only one who knows".

The only time I didn't take a car back and correct is the one thing I still notice to this day - headliner in a old LR Discovery - and this is 2 years later.

Be civil and polite and have it corrected if your gut tells you to...

Never seen it positioned anywhere but the front, but its no biggie to have it in the rear cutout.

Get it replaced, it will bug you every time you get in the car. Nobody needs that kind of aggravation.
