Locked keys in 1976 912E! Help!!!
 

Well lets just put it like this.. I am out of state for the summer and my spare keys are at home. My driving keys are now locked in my car. I live 20 miles out of town. I can get a lock smith but is there any way I can break into my '76 912e without a locksmith or a rock?:confused: Thanks

This seems to be catching. If there is a dealership near you, AND you have proof of ownership, go there with your car's VIN#...they can cut a key.

Everything to prove owner ship is in the glove box or at home. I had my spares shipped to me but I was hoping there was a way I could get in before. thanks again

Do you have the plug-style lock, on the window sill, or the rotating knob style lock?

I have the plug style and I can get a hanger around it but thats about it. There has to be a better way? Thanks

On the 914, a slim jim works by pushing down at the rear of the door and wiggling around. I haven't seen a 911 door apart for a few years, but I suspect something similar to that method will work.

Can you remove the rear vent window from the outside on a '74 or does it have a frame like my 71?

I had a friend who frequently locked her keys in a CRX. I got so good at getting in her car I could do it in about 30 seconds.

I used a few feet of fishing line, a small piece of firm rubber tubing, and a coat hanger. I used the coat hanger to insert the tube between the glass and door gasket. Then I made a slip knot in the fishing line and threaded it through the rubber tube. Using the principle that fishing line gets tangled in whatever is near, I'd just twist the fishing line until it became tangle around the hatchback release lever. Pull... POP! It worked every time!

I don't know how much of a head is on your door lock knob, but the same technique might work - assuming you have stuff.

Try some of that blue packing/banding tape. It worked like a charm when I locked my keys in my '76 at Calder Park Raceway in front of the entire Porsche Club of Victoria... :o

Oh, and for a makeshift slim jim, a flat oil dipstck works as a substitute. Leave the oil on it.

I have done this in my 76 911. You can open one of the rear windows by hitting the back corner. If you can get this open then you can get a wire coat hanger over the lock, or use a long stick to pry it up.

I also know that a slimjim works well. I seem to remember that the catch was a few inches forward of the exterior handle.
