Oil level float hole. Is that normal.

Just received this Porsche oil level sending unit. There’s a strange spot on the float with a lot of corrosion and when I pop the float off there is a hole. I assume that’s not supposed to be there??? Thanks!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1699578513.jpg

I would really be concerned, especially if this is a new sending unit. Here is a picture of what it should look like.

By the way, here is the measurement I found that makes the instrument panel gauge correlate with the oil level as shown on the dipstick. Easy to bend the float arm slightly to get this dimension. This is what works on my 1988 911.

Odd corrosion reaction for brass. Looks like efflorescence (salts) maybe from a contamination with dissimilar metal contact or acid. The part is already compromised - even if the hole wasn’t already eaten through. Send it back.
