911 E 2,2L Targa Color code 98 ??

Hi Folks,

I have a 911 E Targa 2,2L 1970 and I have a color code 98 !!! which I never saw in any 911, I cannot find the color, the car is actually in yellow shade, more like lemongelb, I also asked Porsche France which asked Porsche AG and they couldn't answer my request !!

Any idea ??

Thanks.
Chris

Yes, “98” is not a Porsche color.
But you likely have a Paint-To-Sample car, meaning original owner had the factory paint the car with another car manufacturers Color code or could be the actual paint manufacturer number.

The numbers stamped on the door plate are the actual paint color but not necessarily a Porsche color. Are you getting that “98” code from the door plate or is it on the paperwork?
Paint codes changed in 1972 from 4 digit to 3 digit codes.
Analysis of the paint by a quality paint shop might be able to breakdown the colors spectrum and match the paint to a particular car in order to identify.

Hi EC 900,

Thanks for the information, the 98 code is listed on the Porsche data paper, it look like lemongelb but I would like to clarify, the car was sold initially by Sonauto the French importer and neither Porsche France or Porsche AG are able to give me the information !!
