newbie PPI recommendation

Hi everybody. I don't yet have a 911 but someday I hope to. This is my first posting to the list and I'd like to introduce myself. I'm 41, living in Oceanside, CA, I co-own a digital media company and I've always wanted a Porsche ever since I was about 11!

I've recently started looking for my first 911 and after reading Leffingwell's 911 Buyer's Guide, talking with a few p-car owners and lurking here on this list (thanks for all the great info!), I've narrowed my search to an 85-89 grey, silver or blue Carrera coupe.

One thing that I've heard from others and echoed here is that a pre-purchase inspection is a very good thing to do. So I figured I'd plan ahead and try to locate one now before actually needing it. Can anyone recommend a shop in north county San Diego, CA? Preferably in Oceanside, but Vista, Carlsbad or Encinitas would be fine too. Places to stay away from would be appreciated as well.

Thanks and we me luck in someday having a 911 in my signature too!

Black Forest is good, and there are one or two others in north county but I can't recall off the top of my head. I would avoid AJ USA. They did a lousy PPI for me...

Hey Terry, welcome to the Pelican board. I bought mine in Oceanside about 8 months ago after a few months of searching. Good choice on the vintage of car.
Here are some shops that are reputable.
Pioneer Centres 888-277-2787 9020 Mira Mar Rd. San Diego
Black Forest 858-560-9261 8066 Engineer Rd. S.D
All German Auto 760-738-4626 1327 Simpson Way Escondido

Hope this helps and good luck on your journey to Porsche ownership!

Rick

Thanks for all the suggestions.

BTW, what's the etiquette for how the car gets to the shop? Does the owner typically take it in or do I? I understand I'll be paying of course.

depends on the seller. They might not want to be bothered and will just toss you the keys to do it. Others won't want the car out of their sight, and will take it there. Either way in a perfect world both parties would be there for the inspection.
