Shipping my 911 cross country

I will be re-locating from Oregon to Massachusetts in the Spring time.

I am seeking sage advise regarding shipping my 911 in advance of my move. I have an offer from a friend to park my car at his place but I'm uncomfortable with this. For some reason he is disinclined to take his pristine 914/6 out of his garage for my car.

So, reasonable shipping suggestions? I'd considering using a Pod to put my car in, ship it and hold it there until I can receive it. Pod service may not like having a car with gas in it so that is probably a no-go solution.

Alternately, a car transport service with delivery to someplace that will store it temporarily.

Cost is a concern so gilded pricing will be avoided.

Worst case is I sell it on BaT, (again) and go without a Porsche for the first time since 1974.

Not the cheapest, but they seem to actually care about the cars they transport. I first got interested in using them when I watched the care they took in loading & unloading cars at their facility in northern NJ, which was near my office.

Go to one of the big carriers like suggested above, pay the money and pay for decent car storage. The difference over the average or cut rate shippers is huge. Piece of mind from dealing with professionals is really worth the money. You always expect the transport company to do well but you stand a much better chance of that happening with the big guys. Good luck with the move.

have the car shipped here, and stored at a legit storage facility until you are ready for it. depending on where in MA youre going to be, there are several good options that arent unreasonable. happy to make recommendations if you need.
i wouldnt trust a pod to ship a car. use a real carrier. its a 911 not a 20 year old corolla.

Reliable is the carrier of choice for Ford delivering its new Ford GTs. I can't think of a better recco than that. Certainly not the cheapest, but on a par with the other specialized carriers. In this game, you get what you pay for.

As for shopping the rates - careful …you pay for what you get.
One chap on another Site had a cross country shipper ordeal of sorts, was promised a pickup and a delivery date.The pick up was no problem but when he tracked the shipper, the car wasn’t even near where it was scheduled to be and arrival wound up being days late with a dead battery (the inexperienced truck driver/loader left the key in the On position).
When I was looking for a Shipper I got tangled up with a “broker network”, next thing I got dozens of solicitors and dozens of pricing ranges, just seemed too seedy of an operation. I decided to pick up myself with a Uhaul car carrier trailer (and learned uhaul trailer ramps have a bit too steep angle). Peace of mind anyway.
But if I were to do it again, I’d pick Reliable just for their expertise.

Good point and one that I forgot about. As I now recall, Reliable had a discount for PCA members (or at least there was the last time I used them).

Thinking more toward selling 911, I've owned it since 1978. More of an intellectual decision than emotional. I sold it prior to our relocation from Chico, CA to Salem, OR so I am leaning that way again.

One of my customers (might be one of yours too) is a place called Conway Autowerks, in Hanover, MA. He has a storage facility. If you haven’t already lined up where to ship it to, sending it to them for a couple months for storage may offer you a good solution on arrival.

For the shipping, I would consider Reliable, as others have said.

Five weeks ago, I successfully transported my 911SC and another car from remote NW Montana to NE Ohio with Intercity Lines. They were very helpful and accommodating with my needs. Scott, the driver, was knowledgable and let me know his schedule for pickup and delivery within a five minute window. And cost less than Reliable and Plycar.
