87 911 targa Engine mount recommendations
heya, I did a search the forum but got lost sadly, had a question!
any recommendations of what engine mounts to use in the 911 1987 targa. The car will never be tracked, it's a weekend cruiser and sprinted back roads driver. the aim is comfort and long term maintenance. nothing wrong with the current one, but perhaps I thought its a good thing to change/update as cheap insurance. any specific recommendations, or just stick to the OEM ones?

I’ve run the Rennline mounts on my 993 (yellow = street) and the Wevo blacks on my SC (trans+engine both).
NVH increase in was minimal and shift precision was definitely improved. If you run any kind of aftermarket exhaust on your car the mounts will be unnoticeable in terms of NVH too.

got details of the WEVO site
WEVO are now offering the option between the standard "Blue" Pillows and an alternate more compliant "Black" Pillows for the range of WEVO SS Engine and Transmission mount products. The new "Black" Pillows are 15 points softer on the Shore "A" scale for durometer readings than the original "Blue" Pillows. The Black pillows function in the same way as the Blue pillows - although they allow slightly more deflection under similar loads - the advantage is lower noise transfer through the SS mount module. From our testing we would suggest the Black pillows for any street use only SS transmission mounts. If you drive your car to the track would might also consider these. For pure track work we recommend the original Blue pillows for both SS Transmission and SS Engine mounts. The Black pillows are also good for engine mounts on Street only cars - offering a reduction of engine noise transfer over the Blue pillows - much less engine mount deflection and drive train movement than the O.E. or O.E. Sport Engine mounts. We have created this option to provide more flexibility in the WEVO SS product range. Blue and Black pillows can be mixed in any combination - including mixing them within a single mount body. https://www.wevo.com/Products/ChassisProducts/WevoChassisProducts-SSPillows.htm

I installed wevo, then switched back to OEM.

Why did you switch back to OEM? I just purchased the WEVO black. Haven't even gotten in the mail yet. 1972 911T Elephant racing rubber everywhere. 200hp from hotter MFI motor. Street only.

Changed motor and tranny mounts at same time…much noisier. OEM were a better fit for me. WEVO is a great product it was a personal choice not due to performance.

Very interesting. Not sure if noise has anything to do. Isn’t this just a damper for engine vibrations to not vibrate the body of the car?
Transmission mount I heard helps in shifting. Also helps in the gear lever from vibrating on deceleration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Swapping out both, noticed the increased noise. As the G50 replacements really don't have several options, those stayed. Changing to OEM engine made a noticeable change for my car. Noise from vibration transmission by any other name
Tranny mount improved shifting a bit, nothing earth shattering. This was all refreshing work more than anything.

From experience, I would stick with the OEM ones. The aftermarket ones will introduce a lot of noise and vibration that takes away from the enjoyment of your car.

If you don't want to go billet, buy OEM convertible mounts. They look stock but have slightly stiffer rubber.

I went with Wevo Black after my full roller rebuild.
I was having major issues with my shifter jumping out of 2nd gear with the below setup: - Stock G50 Shifter - New Shifter bushings - JWest Shift Coupler I purchased OEM Porsche mounts from PP, they looked great, but were just too soft. New Wevo blacks installed and my g50 is smooth as silk and no issue with the motor being jarring or transmitting vibrations through the shifter. I left the G50 mounts stock. |

I installed factory Cabrio / Club Sport engine mounts (higher durometer rubber than original coupe mounts) and WEVO black transmission mounts on my 1987 mildly wife unfriendly / "Club Sport" M491 build.
It definitely provides a more sports purpose feel. ![]() I also have a spring centered clutch disk and had a WEVO PSJ. There was definitely more vibration transmitted through the shifter with the new Cab / Club Sport engine mounts and Wevo trans mounts. I swapped the stock shift coupler back in and that tamed things a bit. For a Targa, I'd likely go with the Cab / Club Sport engine mounts and stock transmission mount. If the transmission mount inserts are toast, you might consider pairing the slightly firmer engine mounts with these... https://www.rsrproducts.com/product-page/rsr
