Door mirror issue

1984/5 911 targa carrera.
Trying to get my door mirrors apart, have the glass out that was easy, got the motor housing and surrounding rubber off, again easy 3 bolts.
I can see the back end of three screws that hold rage motor assembly to the metal plate that the motors drive but I cannot figure out how to get to the heads of them.
Any clues or directions would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

Flag mirror?
Disassembly for paint?
I believe there are 3 rivets that hold the folding pivot housing and not removable. PET doesn’t list screws for this and appears to be one unit.
In the first pic, Red arrows are assumed what you already removed, the green arrow are the rivets.
Also a pic I saved from another older post shows some screws connecting the pivot housing to the mirror hosing that looks like screws. I didn’t remove these when I disassembled mine for paint.

those 3(green arrow) are not rivets at all ,Those are 3 screw with phillips head type..Also do not cut wires when removing it from the door.Disconnect the plug and with a special tool push out the connectors from the white plug.Just mark and remember which goes where..

another Q..What are you trying to do?
If you are trying to fix the el. motor you would have to drill out those 4 rivets (in cros order)on the plate to access further. Here are some pics how it looks behind and the rivets-
3rd pic is the tool to remove the connectors from plug

Ok that’s not where I am, I’ll try to attach two photos

One shows the plate with the four rivets, the other shows the reverse side with faint green arrows to the screw ends that I cannot get to the other side of.

Is it possible to remove the heavy rubber surround? If so how?

What I am trying to do is get to the motor to give it a clean up as it runs but motion is very rough, and I would like to see what may be the cause, 40 years of dirt or dried grease or……..

you cannot get to it as i have mentioned, you would have to drill out the rivets of the alu.mounting plate.....for slow motor i`d check the el.connections, no dust can get there as you can see it is all hidden behind the rubber..
Just remember you have rivet it back in correct place

Thanks Ivan, I was worried that was going to be the case, are they just usual pop rivets, if so it’s no big issue.
Noise and action sound more like gearing or something rather than wiring, even if I run it on the bench from a good power supply it is the same

Sounds like a tedious re-assembly job. Teeth ground off due to over-use or stuck mechanism (had it happen when a mirror was frozen). Might be better off finding a used/beater motor on the purchase protected ebay so you don’t get stung with another bad motor.

Factory riveting won’t be duplicated using the DYI type (Arrow, etc.) tool which are ok for some applications but where space is limited, found these hardware store type riveters are not idea because of the bulge on the backside. Looks like the factory rivets in pictures of the mounting plate could be flush on both sides?

Here’s a good link I found about rivets.
