SHOULD i OR SHOULDN'T i

i AM THINKING ABOUT CUTTING THE NEW SPORT MUFFER OPEN AND CUTTING THE HOLES IN THE BAFFLES TO FREE IT UP A BIT OVER THE STOCK SET UP..
WHAT DO YOU GUYS WHO HAVE THEM THINK IS IT A PRETTY FREE FLOWING SET UP STOCK OR IS IT BTTER FOR HE sc 3.0 WITH SSI'S TO BREATH A BIT MORE THAN THE STOCK SET UP ON A SPORT EXHAUST HAS TO OFFER?
THANKS!
ERIC

do you have it installed already? If not...I would wait and see what you think of it, then you can mod as needed.

osidak 06-17-2003 06:06 AM

Hey Eric you got to run that thing stock for a few miles and let me know what it sounds like so I can make my mind up. Then you can cut it up ;)

How does it look quality wise

Eric Mckenna 06-17-2003 06:30 AM

i SHOULD HAVE IT TOMORROW.. SO i CAN'T SAY YET WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE YET.. BUT OK.. FOR YOU GUYS..
I'LL RUNIT FOR A WEEK STOCK.. AND TELL YA WHAT i HEAR..
BUT i SURE LIKED THE FREE FLOW SOUND AND POWER IT GAVE MY CAR WITH THE OLD EXHAUST..

i'LLFOR SURE REPORT IT TO YOU . BEFORE I CUT HER OPEN..

i'LL SEE IF i CAN'T GET A SOUND CLIP OF IT AS WELL FOR YOU GUYS..

Put it on and find out how it runs. If you don't like it, go to Bubba's muff shop an have them fab up a Dynoflow two in and two out muffler (assuming that you have SSIs or similiar)....THAT is about as free flow as you can get.

If you only have a single outlet set up, get the single in dual out...the whole set up cost me 200 bucks....

How mcch does the bubba sport muffler end up costing? How loud is the dynaflow setup over a stock sport muffler? Is it less raspy than the sport muffler like I would think?

schubee 06-17-2003 08:05 AM

Eric,

I tried this on my stock SC muffler. I had a shop cut it open and remove some of the baffles. I also had them turn it from a one out to a dual out. The sound has a low rumble to it...almost like a V8. I personally don't like it anymore because I lost the true sound of the flat six. I'll try to borrow my ex's digital recorder so you guys can hear it.

Bubba's muff and fab work ran $250. My first and only sport muffler (used) had an annoying resonance in the mid range.

When I swapped out my 3.0 for the 3.6, I went with Supertrapps. They have removeable discs that allow me to adjust sound and resonance levels.

The MAIN reason I like the STs the best....is that I can simply remove ALL the discs and the end cap when I am the track....instant zoom tubes.....

eRIC, WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE CAPS ALL OF THE TIME?? aND THE FACT THAT YOU CAPITALIZE CERTAIN LETTERS, SO YOU END UP WITH REVERSE TYPE. iS THAT JUST YOUR TRADEMARK??

nOT COMPLAINING, JUST CURIOUS.

Mikkel 06-17-2003 09:09 AM

LOL MASRAUM. I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE SAME THING. I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ERIC'S JOB COMPUTER NEEDING CAPITAL LETTERS.

:D

I think you will be very happy with the sport muffler just the way it is. If you really want no flow restriction go with a dual Magnaflow muffler system. You can see straight through them.

WHY IS EVERYONE SHOUTING?

pbs911 06-17-2003 09:43 AM

Judging by the topic of this thread, maybe Eric is a little hard of hearing. ;)

JOHN, WAS IT NOT LOUD ENOUGH OR WAS IT STILL TOO RESTRICTIVE. TO ALLOW FOR MAX PERFORMANCE FOR THE 3.0?
ALL I REALLY WANT IS TO EXTRACT MAX PERFORMANCE OUT OF IT.. AND IF CUTTING THE BAFFLES OUT WILL FREE IT UP AND ALLOW ME TO DO THIS.. THIS I GUESS IT MUST BE DONE..
WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR CUTTING IT OPEN?
TIA,
ERICSmileWavy
