1972 911 shifter shaft seal removal

I have a 72 911 leaking trans fluid so I figured it was coming from the shifter shaft seal. For some reason I cannot get the seal out .. it even broke the tabs on a seal remover tool. Anyone have a special tool or know of a way to get that thing out!?

I would be temped to try to screw in a wood screw or 2 to get some purchase. Obviously, you have to be super careful not to nick anything other than the seal.

I tried the suggestions above, and ended up removing the tail section of the transmission to get my old one out.

use small screwdriver and pry it out very simple thing.Just do not go on the outside of the seal,go by shifting rod no need to go too deep(so you do not touch the alu. casing).it will pop out easilly. To install it, slide new on the rod used 17 mm wrench and push it in ...

"pop out easily" NOT! I think it must have something to do with what seal is in there . . this one seems to have "welded" itself onto the shaft. The old ones had a metal band around the outside . . I am not sure the newer ones do. I might try heating the shaft today to try and break the bond.

I had another idea . .. I might try "super cold" aerosol spray. Comes in a can and you can direct the spray to the seal and possibly fracture that stuck outer metal band that is welded to the trans shaft.

I hate to leave threads unfinished should anyone else have this problem. So happy to report the Amazon tool worked! Filed down the hook ends a bit and torqued that puppy down! Out it came!

I had a hell of a time getting mine out. I had to basically dremmel a "hook" onto a small screwdriver and was finally able to hook that on a metal part of the seal. It was extremely frustrating and all other methods failed.
