Ignition switch installation

I just got the ignition trim ring from uro. It does not fit my switch nor the dash opening. 1966 original switch. What am I missing. The uro trim ring is bigger than dash opening and the threaded portion is bigger the the switch. The dash opening is irregular shape. Thanks

Ignition switch installation

Yes you need another pieces. And you have a No Euro ignition switch to a 68-69 k300 series. Do you have the Kardex?

There are 2 types of ignition switches available in early 911s. Since your lacks the straight arm leading to the steering column, you have the non-locking type.

Here are the parts for the non-locking switches:
Part #14 is used to in place of #8 and #15. There are 2 versions of #14 depending upon the switch's thread size, M22 & M28.

I make both #13 and #14.

#13

Centering plate, '65-'68, 901.613.108.10, $8.40

#14

Ignition Bezel, M22 Threads, 901.613.191.10, $55.62

hey. mine must be 68-69. also car started out as 912 if that matters. but had 6 cylinder mounts installed before I got it. car was well taken apart and everything marked in bags. although so long ago the writing on most is not legible everything seams original the connections are spade like the 68-69 picture above. there is no column lock. I do not have that rectangular plate that Jimmy shows and the cover I have is to big the threaded part is larger then the ignition part it screws to. Jimmy do those tabs on each end bend into the dash to center the switch ? and does the cover screw onto the switch to hold it in? I got 901.613.160.02 ignition cover kit from uro. but again it is too big to thread on. thanks

Here is the complete figure of the locking and non-locking ignition switches from the PET.

The order of installation from the front toward the driver would be:
Ignition switch
Nut
Centering plate
Dashboard sheet metal
Dash covering (wood, aluminum, vinyl)
and then a choice of
1. Small bezel #14
or
2. Intermediate ring #8 and Trim #15
Please note that there are two similar final key surrounds, #9 and #15. #9 has 28mm threads and #15 can have either 22mm or 28mm threads. It appears that you bought the #9 equivalent, so it is too large for your switch.

The top and bottom tabs of the centering plate engage one or both of the dashboard hole's small recesses at 11:00 and 5:00 in your first post. One of the two final key surrounds (#9 or #15) is screwed onto the end of the ignition switch, which can't turn because it is kept from rotating by the centering plate channels. As it is tightened the assembly can still be slid to make small position adjustments before final tightening.

You should consider looking at your dashboard covering for witness marks of the old bezel's diameter.
Can you measure the diameter of your switch threads.
Do you have any photos of the car's previous interior?

Hi everyone, great info here! Porsche Switch Cover 901 613 160 02 is the "large-version" bezel (#15 on diagram) with M28 threads.

Our Ignition Switch Cover Kit 901 613 160 02KIT consists of this 901 613 160 02 bezel, the intermediate ring, and the metal cover plate. To help clarify the fitment, we're adding this to the item description: "Large-bezel version, for cars with steering lock and switch with 28mm threads & spade contacts."

901 613 160 03 appears to be the "small-version" black plastic bezel (#15 on diagram) for M22 switches without steering lock. Or per JimmyT, 901 613 191 10 (#14 on diagram) could also be used on the M22 switches.
