sure looks and sound nice...

but I have seen that ad for months now. I like the two engine option, however as before, he has been trying to sell it for an awfully long time. Looks nice tho. Shawn.

A soft window - in oregon, without rust?

smoak 06-17-2003 05:52 PM

The fact that he has been trying to sell it could be a factor of the price. Is this a good price for this car? The no rust is nice for a car of this pre-galvanized era. Leakdown, PPI and away you go. Looks good to me. Soft window was an interesting option and could be worth the money.

Seems like it would have been snapped up right away at that price. Maybe it has some 'issues'????? -- Curt

Especially with two engines

Anyone with any hard data on '69 Soft Window production numbers?

I just talked to the owner. He said the car is not perfect, but has no real serious issues; he's surprised that it hasn't sold. I told him about this discussion and he said he would come visit soon, so everyone be nice!

I did see this post from 9-7-2002 where the same car was for sale for $13,900:

well my favorite book...

the "Red Book", puts production numbers for 69T targa's at 282. The red book does not specify between sportomatics and manual trans cars for this year. Nor, does it indicate soft or glass options.

Then, the "Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan puts total 1969 targa production numbers at 1282. (I have found many discrepancies with Morgans book).

Furthermore, Dean Batchelors book "Porsche Buyers's Guide" adds to the confusion by confirming that the soft rear window option was eliminated and a glass only rear window was available for 1969. There are no production numbers in this book.

I feel that the seller may consider investing in one of the, now spendy, (currently $110) certificates of authenticity to confirm that his car is a valid softy.

The extent of my library...love the looks of the car tho. Shawn.

Its hard to believe a 35 year old 911 is only worth 11.5
I'd think it would have classic value at this point. Isn't a car considered an antique after 35 years?

TYPE 901/05 06-17-2003 09:09 PM

yes, if they can be confirmed...

as original; numbers matching; accident and rust free, correct paint, body panels, and interior cars.

The avalability of good original early cars is deminishing, the buyers are demanding proper documentation to prove the originality of these vehicles.

The eighties trend of conversion to turbo, wide body, slant nose, big glass wings to these early cars cut the numbers down signifcantly.

Early car buyers are aware of the corrosion areas and corectness that the market demands on these investments.
The more documentation of originality provided, the higher the selling price.

Shawn. OK, what happened to the first part of my post?

'67 Soft Window only
'68 Soft Window standard / Hard Window as an option
'69 Hard Window standard / Soft Window option

Soft window option available for a couple more years.

Soft/foldable rear window option

The soft/foldable rear window option was available through 1971. From what I've read/learned over the years, only a "handfull" of Targas were manufactured with this option from 1969 on. Since there was no official count made, best factory guess of how many units makes a "handfull" is less than 100. If I only had the cash available ....!
