Valentine Research Feedback Emissions Compliance Controler
I've shared a little bit about the build/rebuild I have been working on this summer in the form of pictures and comments in a few other threads, but I have had a couple of things come up this week that have stumped me. So I thought I'd ask if anyone had seen similar or had experience either way.
A little in the way of background - the car in question was my father's and has been sitting for nearly 10 years since he passed away. The car is a 1985 Targa with 107k on it and is a ROW (France, to be specific) car that we purchased new, and that was federalized when we moved to the US in the late 80's. At the time, the car was fitted with a catalytic converter and several other items to meet California emissions. The car has never failed a smog in California or recently here in CO, where it put up numbers that would have passed in CA as well. (Yay) Now, here comes the interesting part - I've had the car on the dyno to get a baseline, and the power numbers are higher than expected. Being conservative, the car seems to be making 235+hp and 220+ Ft/tq. Power peaks are in the right place. The cat is in the car and functional. Let's not get lost in dyno minutia here; before it gets said, yes, I know they fluctuate; some read high, etc. The shop has significant experience tuning Porsches, and relative to other G-body cars, many modified, these counts are high. While exploring the car more to see if I wanted to mess with tuning it, we found something called a "Feedback Emissions Compliance Monitor" made by Valentine Research (the radar detector guys). Some searching turned up a sum total of 3 links on the internet with any context on it. This link below from reenlist houses most of it: https://members.rennlist.com/pirtle/zfi_bosch_brains.txt So the question to you all here is, does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of this item? Valentine himself in that convo, says he hasn't had his hands on one in 35 years ![]()
