electric rail slider not working
Okay I have a 1987 Carrera.
I have electric seats in the car. ON The drivers side seat the slider on one side is not moving back and forth in the rail. The rod that rotates to move the slider back and forth is getting no power (NOT TURNNG AT ALL). Yet, on the same seat the rod on the other side is turning allowing the slider to mover back and forth. I do not believe it is an electrical, switch, or motor problems because like I said the left slider on the seat moves back and forth but the right side slighter is not turning or moving whatsoever. I would think the same switch contols both sliders. But I could be wrong. Can you guys provide me any assistance on how to troubleshoot/fix this issue Williams |

The flex cables get detached from the motor. Put it back.

Thanks so much for getting back to me and trying to help. I took the seat out of the car. I first thought one of the motors was bad. I hot wired it and it seems to be running but not turning the slider stem. You indicated that the flex cable may not be attached. I do not know how to detect the flex cable. Everything seems to be attached. Can you help me locate the flex cable you spoke of. Like I said I sent 12 volts directly to the motor I thought was bad. It was turning a round socket hole bolt at the back of the rail but was not turning the slider mechanism Anymore ideas on how to trouble shoot this |

I absolutely do not any experience with 911 electric seat mechanisms (have manual seats) as you say the pass. side works, but do these have similar system like the mirrors - requires a toggle to send power to other side?
But for what it’s worth… try tapping or coaxing the motor. I moved my electric seat all the way forward on my 328is to clean carpets and seat got stuck. Drove knees to the chin to the shop and all the mechanic did was rap a few times on the motor w/o taking the seat out and it freed up. 2˘ |

There is a collar clip that secures the cable from the motor to the tranny, detach it from either side to see if it turns. Very possible it slid out of the tranny. As long as you have checked the motor first !!

I am ignorant to all of this but I tried to follow your instructions and for the rail not working I traced the wire from the motor to the end and then disconnected that end. The picture below is the rod that is a the end of the wire. I put 12 volts to the motor to see if the motor works and the end in the pic started spinning letting me know my motor is good. My question to you is the stem in the picture is that what makes the rail slide move. If so, could my problem be that the stem in the pic had come loose from the rail/slide. Is that what was preventing the rail on the one side not moving back and forth Hang in there with me (I tried to upload pic but it said to large Williams |
