Remove Inoperable power seats 911SC

I recently acquired a 1983 911SC Cab that had been parked for the last 6 years due to an engine bay fuel leak. I put a battery in it and tried to move some later model? power seats installed by one of the previous owners, but they would not go forward or backward, and the seats were parked over the rear seat bolts that I needed to remove. I noticed a hole in the front trim on the driverside seat that gave access to a 6mm allen bolt that when turned, would manually creep the seat forward or backward. I was able to get the rear fasteners out and remove the seat.

I tried to do the same thing on the passenger seat but the set of plastic gears the allen wrench was turning were missing teeth and so the seat wouldn't move. I did notice that I could pull the seat drive cables out of the power seat gear motor easily, so I did that. I hooked my cordless drill to the end of the seat cable and spun the cable in a direction that moved the seat forward 1/2". Then I hooked the cordless to the other cable and spun it in the opposite direction and let it creep forward about an inch. I went back and forth with both cables until I had the seat moved enough to access the rear seat bolts.

I don’t recall power seats on an SC, just Carreras
The SC seat fixture on the floor only require 4 6mm bolts where the Carreras seat requires 6 8mm bolts because the seat belt was connected to the seat, not the center tunnel

Agreed, my 79 did not have power seats, pretty sure my 91 had these seats though. I pulled the seats and saw a harness starting with 964 part number. I could tell that the installer was the same guy that installed the stereo, power amp, EQ, power antenna, and CD changer. He had 2 tools for the entire job, a knife and a roll of duct tape. I tore ALL if it out. I will test out the seat functions on the motorcycle lift and if I can get them working satisfactorily, I will reinstall with proper wiring.

FI, power seats became an option in 85, so you are correct, they are not original to your SC.

Kudos to you draperjojo. Resourceful way to complete the seat removal task.

Have you dealt with the fuel leak yet?
