I have a 68 Targa in parts that I'm slowly putting back together. These are a left- and right-version 14" long. Look like some sort of bumper/fender support, but I'm doing that work currently & haven't seen where these are needed. I can't find a callout for them on any dwg. Bottom hole is threaded. I cleaned them up & painted black b/c I thought they were some type of support.

I purchased my car from a guy who did Porsche work and I got a lot of parts in bins and boxes. I did get parts that don't go with my car. These could be for a diff year/model.

A guess. Rear quarter panel support just after of rear wheels

Good guess. I can't find them on the drawings for a '68 either - but if you look at drawing 801-35 (Exterior Panelling, Rear) in PET for middies (1974) on, there are two "support tubes" that support the lower edge of the bumper extension/valence behind the wheel and stop it flexing.

These look like #10 on the diagram, 911.501.623.01, the longest one. The top goes into the side-member in the engine bay. The shorter one(s), #14 on the diagram, bolt to a plate under the rear cross-member.

I searched ebay for porsche support brackets. This is as close as I can find:

However, the part I have is v-shaped along the body and not round. Plus it's threaded on one end so it must sandwich the connecting piece between the bolt and it.

Can't believe I have a part that no one has ever seen before. Prob not even a porsche part...

Just for fun I fed your pic to Google Lens and got some results. Nearest one says fender support strut or bracket for old GMC / Chevrolet trucks. Have a look at this classified on a French site, it matches quite well. I could be wrong.

Is your Targa a soft rear window? Could these be folding window parts?

That was my first thought, but I’ve never taken one apart, so was unsure.

Maybe 964 or 993 support brackets for the lower engine cover?

964-993 front oil cooler support brackets , mounted at frame rail next to front bumper isolator down to cooler carrier tray? Not a 911 part from any year.

I went back and looked at my original pics of the inventory I rec'd with the car. (I took a pic of each tote with parts laid out). These had some red paint overspray (car had been painted red) and also with id tape that labeled them. I think label read "rear bumper support" & that's where I got the general info. It is indeed a part that was pulled from this car.

The car was a hard rear window (although I'm converting to SWT). So they weren't part of a soft window.

I'm going to be mocking up the rear fenders this week. I'll do some investigative work and figure out where they were installed. They're aren't that many places if they were attached to the rear outer bumpers or the center plate.
