I put a rennshifter in my SC when I bought it eight years ago, but I'm going to clean up the stock shifter and try it again. I agree - the short shifters are a little notchy and I didn't give the stock shifter a fair shake.
If you rev match (heel toe) you can 2-1 shift at 25mph without issue. If I'm autocrossing or climbing steep grades on a rally, I'd rather drop to 1st than lug the engine in 2nd. It's hard on the synchro but I built it once (actually twice) and I'll build it again when it needs it. |

https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/240038-amazing-long-shifter.html Yeah, the long shifter seems nicely tuned to the 915's shifting cadence. I even got it to shift from reverse to 1st without a deliberate pause. The extension is from TimmyT, a very well designed and made product, reversible to boot. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1006707-shifter-rod-extensions.html#post10166006 A nice post from 911pcars Sherwood RIP explaining the "mechanics" ... https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/486577-shift-lever-extension-ala-john-walker.html#post5030983. He sold extensions as well. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/623159-yet-another-shifter-thing.html |
So the short shifter is the length of the shifter. I thought the short shifter or something internal.

The Porsche short shifter internals are different. The lever sits at the same height, but the throw is shorter and slightly stiffer because of the reduced leverage. I can't say whether this is true for other short shifters, but I expect it is.
