What size Fuchs are original on a Carrera 3.2?
 

I searched the site and there are many opinions on what works well and what looks good but I didn't clearly see what was the original offering. I am interrested in getting a set of Fuchs for my 87 and want to be sure not to by the wrong ones. I see a nice set of 16" 6's and 7's but I think there off of an SC.

What size for a 3.2? 7Jx16, 8Jx16?

What offset or P/N's?

I think they are 6's and 7's on the base model.

3.2L cars came with either 15x7 and 15x8 or 16x6 and 16x7. Unless it is an 89 in which case it may have come with 16x6 and 16x8, or it is a turbo-look in which case it came with 16x7 and 16x9.

I'm not sure when the 15's quit being an option.

My 88 owners manual states that the base wheels were 15x7 and 15x8. My car was OEW equiped with 16x6 and 16x7. I believe the 89 option was 16x6 and 16x8.

If youre looking to swap wheels (as I am) you can fit 911 16x7's up front and up to 16x9's in back. The 944 offset 16x8's will fit up front of the 3.2's.

1984: "Telephone Dial" wheels standard (6Jx15 w/ 185/70 tires front and 7Jx15 w/ 215/60 rear), and Turbo Look/Turbo came with Fuchs 7Jx16 w/ 205/55VR and 8Jx16 w/ 225/50VR. Fuchs were an option.
1985: No change
1986: Turbo and Turbo Look changed to include 9Jx16 Fuchs alloys on rear with 245/45 tires.
1987: Stock front tires were changed to 195/65VR15.
1988: Standard equipment wheels changed from cast alloy "Telephone Dials" to Fuchs forged alloys 6Jx6 with 205/55VR16 tires in front and 7Jx16 with 225/50VR16 tires in rear.
1989: Standard wheels were 6J16 with 205/55VR tires in front and 8J16 with 225/50VR tires in rear.

My 87 sport spec UK came with 16 x 7 and 16 x 9
My 88 non sport German spec came with 16 X 6 and 16 x 8
UK 88 on usually had turbo wheels (7s and 9s)

European cars typically came with 15" wheels. I believe most, if not all of the USA cars came with the 16" wheels.

I still have the original window sticker on my 86. This is what the car came with in 86

16x6 in front w/ VR 205/55 tires

16x7 in rear w/ VR 225/50 tires

can I go with 16 X 7 and 16 X 9 rear for my 89 3.2? or is that too wide and problematic? is 16X 8 better option for rear?

I think the max tire size for the rear is 245 and I think the rim size matched to that tire is 8''. You can run a 245 on a 9'' wheel but for a street car, I think the 8'' is preferable. The extra inch on the 9'' I think is to the inside. I am considering running 7&9x16'' on my track car which is a G body. I have not mounted up the 9'' with a race tire as of yet, but I think is going to be very tight to the outside. The footprint on a race tire is wider that what I see on a same size street tire. Bob

You can go with any of the 16 inch options, it all depends of what is that you like. The only thing when having 9 inch, is that the 245/45/16 tires were not as plentiful as they used to be, but you can find them, at a cost. The 8 inch, you can find more options for it, but again, it goes to what is that you want. Anyway good luck!

My '87 US base model came with 15x7 and 15x8.

There are a lot of folks that went to 17x7 and 17x9 replica FUCHS when the 245/45/16 tires were discontinued for a time. I was one that opted to go 17's, which I still run today in my 85 Targa with 17x7 with 215/45/17 front and 17x9 with 255/40/17 rear. I have not experience any rubbing issues with this setup. I still hold my 16x7 and 9's plus my 16x6 if I feel like going that route too.

stock on a '89 Carrera 3,2 was 6ET35 and 7ET23.3 x15, 195/65 and 215/60 tires

w/ 7ET23.3 and 8ET10.6 x15 as one option and
6ET36 and 7ET23.3 x16 as another option w/ 205/55 & 225/50 tires

you can run 7Et23.3 front(move the stock rears to the front) and buy 930 9x16ET15 rears, you'd use either 205/50 or 225/50 or 225/45 fronts and 245/45 rears

a better way to go is to use 7ET23.3 front and buy 8ET10.6 for the back then used 205/50 and 225/45 tires

Depending of ride height and suspension spec even 7ET23.3 205 /55 x16 can be very tight in front

as has been mentioned in back the 9 & 245 combo can even use spacers
