adjusting starwheel dizzy gap
Anyone adjusted the gap on the starwheel in the dizzy?
Mine vary between 5 thou and 15. I am sure they should all be the same. Basically like an airgap on other engines. Has anyone had a go at getting them even? It looks like the permanent magnet lugs are the ones at variance. Thanks Alan |
Unless you have 6 measuring gauges, all you you need do is really just center the magnetic impulse magnet. Loosen the 3 screws and use 6 similar thickness pieces of cardboard a few mill thick at each trigger point...should be able to get all 6 pieces in with some slight drag. Once centered tighten the 3 screws securing the magnetic. Remove the shims and measure with your gauge.

So there is adjustment in those 3 allen screws - makes sense. THANKS.
I was just going to use a feeler gauge at 180 deg intervals. That should center it. 5 thou + 15 thou = 20, so 10 each side should be close(r). Thanks Alan |
I couldn't find any adjustment in those 3 screws.
I gently (nervously) tapped the magnetic legs. That seemed to work. Alan |
if you loosen all 3 of the screws, there should be plenty of side to side movement in the magnet

No, I didn't get any, but very slight tweeks on those magnetic prongs worked.

Checked again. Very slight movement, but enough.
8 thou seemed to be the happy number all round. Thanks Alan |
