ebayed 906 engine
Anyone looking to race a small displacement engine?
|
Wayne is currently high bidder!
|
HAHA!! yep yep.. I'm drooling all over that engine
|
What kind of horsepower would you expect from it?
|
I think it officially makes about 210 but you never know how much with porsche. they underestimate the HP ussually
|
Anyone own one of these 904/906?
I admit to having little knowledge of the 904 and 906, but does anyone here own one, or have any experience with them?
What are they like? |
It's a 906 spec motor not a 906 motor. Did the 906 have MFI?
-Chris |
According to the 906 owners' manual, the 901/20 906 motor with Weber 46's made 210 HP at 8100 RPM and 20 mkp at 5700 RPM. The 901/21 906 motor with MFI made 220 HP at 8100 RPM and 21 mkp at 6400 RPM. Ya gotta love MFI!
It looks like this was built as a 901/20. |
Hey, let's make this interesting and guess the reserve ..... I really haven't a clue but will guesstimate $10,000.
|
Good luck Wayne!! I'd love to have that in my living room, but I bet the wife would hate that.
Hmm, I wonder how that would work in a Beck Spyder?? |
All I know is those 906 2.0l f6's sound d@mn good at 8k!
|
emailed with the seller...he will let it go for 12K
I wonder if wayne is shopping for his 914-6 or for that friend of his who is restoring the 906.... maybe pelican is doing pretty well after all ;) ;) :D |
What's so special about 906 motor? Does it have DOHC or is it just plain vanilla rocker-actuated small-capacity flat six with hot cams?
|
Let me dispell rumours - the 906-spec engine has a reserve of $12,000 (found out today). Way overpriced in my opinion, considering that this is a question mark motor (who rebuilt it), and that the internals of the 906 weren't really anything super-special (no unobtainium parts inside). The cool stuff on this engine are the twin-plug distributor and the center camshaft oiling system (which was standard on the early 1965 911s anyways).
The engine is built on a 914-6 case (serial number is on top of the engine) making this not very special at all. I simply bid on what I figured the distributor and the carbs were worth (I could use both). Not knowing the history of the build, or anything else about it, you need to only bid on the value of the parts. -Wayne |
