77 oil tank bung replacement
I have a 77 911 oil tank with stripped threads on the bung for the oil drain plug.
would anyone know the size of this bung and where one would be able to buy it. I will mail the tank to pacific oil coolers but they need me to supply the bung to be welded in. Thanks for any help. |

First, there are oversize drain plugs avail at many retailers. They have cutting edges on the lead-in threads, so you install the new plug carefully and turn it in until it cuts new threads.
Next, you can install a Helicoil or Timesert. The sealing surface is at the flat part of the bung where the crush washer sits, so those inserts will not cause leaks (make sure they are installed flush, or slightly below the flat surface). Welding in a new bung is a last resort.

mine was also stripped. I ordered a M22 1.5 soot chaser from amazon and cleaned up the threads and it worked well

? Does your drain plug have a 19mm or 15mm hex. 19 can have short threads, 15mm always have long threads.
