Throttle linkage, do I just pry this off?

EDIT: See Post 9 below for the answer with pictures!

I’m tearing down the engine on my 1984 Targa and I’m trying to disconnect the throttle linkages. All of the others have popped off easily, but I’ve leaned on this one a good bit with my screwdriver and it will not come off.

This comes up from the transmission to the back of the engine. In the pic below, I’ve already removed the intake manifold.

Do I just need to pry harder? Any suggestions?

I believe you want to turn the locking nut back and then unthread the rod

That’s the one that was frozen on mine (83). I pried it so hard the ball broke off and I had to replace the part that mounts to the front of the engine. The one that says 19473 on yours. It was cheap used on eBay.

Listen to rscotty and Mike ! There is a very small locking circlip (made of wire) that inserts and loops around the ball to secure it. If you muscle it off, there will be needless damage. First rotate the cliip off the ball then pull it out of the hole and you are done.

A good reason to get the PET diagrams for your year . . good to know what parts you are taking apart and how they go together before you remove them!

Highly recommend replacing any linkage items with the engine out. My linkage was broken at the bellhousing and it was a pain to replace with the engine in the car. Was able to do it, but required essentially crawling into the engine compartment to get the proper hand placement to re-thread the replacement.
