throttle support rod on transmission leaking

It looks like I am getting gear oil around the rod where it screws into the transmission. Or maybe I just spilled gear oil on it when I changed the fluid. Does this rod actually make a seal or is it a blind hole?

It's a blind hole.

It's drilled through and can leak. Seal the threads with pipe sealant.

Well, we have one vote blind and one through hole. G50 trans. I think its drilled through as the oil is fresh. Will check it out today and confirm.

Is it worth looking at PET to see if it shows anything either way.

Tried, and it doesnt show any kind of seal or description.

If it is all the way through then I will have to let out some gear oil as its below the filler. Seems weird to make it all the way into the trans.

No big deal easy enough to get to it.

Well, I can confirm it is a through hole. I removed it, drained out close to a qt, put some sealant on the threads (Permatex high temp thread sealant) and put it back together. I also topped off the gearbox with oil.

Well I'll be, looks like my advice was wrong. I've had the throttle shaft out on my 915 a number of times and have not seen a trace of oil so I assumed (always bad) the hole was blind. I have never put any sealant on the threads and never has it weeped even a little. Guess I am lucky.

May be sealed on a 915. Maybe they opened it up on the G50 to save weight

It's a blind hole on the 915, I've read before it's through on the G50 but no personal experience.

Yeah, I need to pay more attention to the pics, it's clearly not a 915 so a G50 it is. My apologies for the wrong direction.
