uneven idle when cold

hello again,

i have just been reading some of the back stories here and just thought i should ask about my idle.

when i start the engine up from cold (winter cold) it doesn't idle at a constant speed but gently revs up and down until it is warm. once warm it idles at a constant speed.

i've always liked this searching idle as it made the car sound 'alive'! but after reading some of these stories i just wanted to check whether this is normal or not, or a sign of problems to come.

many thanks as always for your help, this is a great site.

I just gave the old girl a good clean and took her for a late evening spin. ah bliss.

Justin, you are running a little rich. Have the mixture checked. Could be a cold control pressure problem on the warm up regulator, but get the mixture checked first.
