1987 G50 Trans Short Shift Kit
I have had Wevo's on 3 previous 915 cars and really liked the feel. I just picked up an '87 G50 and am wanting to tighten up the shifter a bit.
I've been searching on the forums, but wanted to see if anyone had any recent recommendations on a good SSK for a G50 car. Wevo, JWest, Numeric, any others? Thanks in advance! |

I had the JWest shifter and coupler pillow fitted with a G50 conversion. Accepts the standard shift knob and hides under the factory skirt - so no clues its even there unless you want to show it off.
I find it extremely precise and very pleasant to drive. Completely different animal to even a "no-excuses" rebuilt 915.

I gotta give the nod to the RennShift 2.0 for the G50. It's height adjustable and the mechanism fits under the factory boot. I have the RennShift 2.0, with factory coupler in my 1987 along with Club Sport / Cab engine mounts and WEVO black transmission mounts. I have the WEVO shifter and WEVO PSJ in my 1989 with console delete, Club Sport / Cab engine mounts and WEVO black transmission mounts. I've run stock, factory short shift lever w/ RennShift coupler, RennShift 1.0 w/ RennShift coupler, WEVO with stock coupler, WEVO with WEVO PSJ and RennShift 2.0 with stock coupler. You can more easily go with the WEVO on a console delete car. Do the RennShift or WEVO couplers if you're looking for more sports purpose and are willing to accept some additional NVH. Take your clutch disc (spring centered vs. original rubber center) engine mounts and transmission mounts (condition and model) into overall consideration for the precision / performance vs. NVH trade-offs.

I had the WEVO installed by the porsche indy here.
he said it didn't fit properly....odd. even moved the console up a little bit for some reason..which I wasn't happy about. Ended up taking it out and I've been looking for a replacement or at least refresh all the bushings in the tunnel and under boot... welcome any suggestions on where to start.. JWEST looks interesting!

I had the opportunity to buy the RennShift 2.0 for the G50 with a good black-friday discount, the kit looks amazing and very well built, installation was very easy and all went into place very well, now I just need to get my engine/trans back to put it into the real test.
