Farmer’s Automotive New Stage 1 3.2 Build

After 52 years of Porsche air-cooled mechanical and racing experience we are now in a new phase of Porsche engine power development. Farmer’s Automotive new Stage 1 3.2 has been finalized, tested, and now being offered for customer’s.

The engine begins with a stock 3.2 with our proprietary ported and flow-benched heads, cam shafts, and chip. The posted video and attached dyno sheets are with our chip that is running very conservative ignition timing, and factory heat exchangers, side pipe, with a Borla muffler. We have proven that we can safely increase the ignition above 6,000 with absolutely no detonation issues for a bit more power. Call us to for any questions or for specific specifications, Farmer’s Automotive. (800) 213-6373

Is it really possible to gain 64 hp with cams , ported heads , exhaust and advancing timing? I know that a manufacturer has to count beans because of mass production and profit margins but did Porsche really leave that much hp on the table? Am I missing something? Sincere question.

I can’t speak to the actual number 64 hp nor am I an engine builder, but emissions regulations, efficiency, etc. are part of the calculus with respect to the degree to which Porsche or others leave performance on the table.

64 hp was what i derived from the OP's dyno sheet of 281 hp peak. a normally aspirated 1988 Carrera was 217 hp when delivered in 88. I get the emissions regulations but it still seems to me that 60 plus hp is a heck of alot. I was assuming the valve size hasn't changed. I have an 88 this is like giving a toddler a two liter of coke. what kid wouldn't take it? One of the posters here makes a very nice array of exhausts coupled with some great porting for somewhere around three grand is pretty darned tempting. thanks for the reply. I may still be underestimating the improvement of flow in an air pump.

Seems to me that the only real/acccurate way to quantify the effects of performance modifications is to perform a before/after test on the same dyno under the same conditions (i.e. stock, healthy motor vs same motor after mods completed). There are a lot of variations from/between dyno types/models and no real way of knowing how to baseline the results reported above against a known entity

Absolutely 100% agree. i would assume that a variation between dynos would be at best 5%. We are talking 3 hp here with the OP's gains. I am in awe of the gains that have been achieved by the icons on this board and their inherent willingness to share their knowledge and wares. its also pretty exciting to read the sparring that inevitably ensues as well.

also need clarification on whether the OP's numbers are rear wheel HP or crank HP and the same info for the baseline you're using.

In the first graphic that Zippykb shows (page 3 of 7) the header says "Corrected Performance Graph". Wouldn't that be rear wheel hp and rotational losses accounted for?

I can’t speak to this engine in particular, but I can say I’ve had nothing but a positive experience with Farmers. They rebuilt my 3.0sc engine after I had several “adventures” with other shops. My car runs the best it ever has in the 15 years I’ve owned it. It now pulls strong all the way to redline and lost nothing down low. Not a fancy shop, but this is made up for by many years of specific knowledge focused on just aircooled 911’s. I have zero doubts this claim is real, these guys are straight shooters.

I bought in my ‘89 911 in May for this same rebuild. Hoping for the same results!
