911 3.2 SSI Heat backdate w/AC
Hi looking to backdate the heat in my 3.2 which is currently running SSI with no heater hoses hooked up.
Looking at the Pelican site it looks like I will need to modify this part in order for me to keep the AC https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/91110632201PH.htm?pn=911-106-322-01-PH&SVSVSI=911M&DID=25663 Does anyone have any advice or pictures of what needs to be modified? Also for the hosing can someone provide a link for the proper hose? I will need to replace all of it so it might be better to buy it in bulk vs the individual pieces on pelican. Thank you Last edited by Conekiller; 04-14-2020 at 12:15 PM.. |

To modify the part you have to reposition the elbow lower on the plate. Where it is as shipped it will interfere with the AC bracket. I had a welder cut and re-weld. Hard to believe no one makes one that fits properly, but I could not find one.
For the hose, I used 60mm black aluminum. You can find it on Amazon pretty cheap. Just measure for total length. https://www.amazon.com/Hvlystory-Heater-Ducting-Webasto-Dometic/dp/B07NPHGJFV/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=60mm+heater+hose&qid=1586921443&sr=8-17

Thanks that is what I was thinking but didn't know if it would require more then that to make it fit. I might just ended up modifying the stock one then if it will require cutting and rewelding anyways.
For the engine Tin did you cut holes in the existing Tin for the Heater hose to pass through or did you buy the earlier style tin with the shorter side and the square hose path throughs? |

I actually did both; I have an '87, but it is heavily modified (turbo, etc.). I used an older set for the passenger side (two pieces, one small one with the hole), and drilled a hole in the stock driver side.

Use turbo parts and SC parts, all readily available
The left through the tin by the chain box is a pre 75 piece Bruce |

Look on the PET, pages 105-05 and 105-10.
The air channels and right and left (4pieces total) sides that bolt to motor Turbo air channel has a cutout for distributor room The right two pieces are the same from 75 to 83 The left long piece is standard over years The left short piece with the 60mm hole was up through 74 and 76/77 with thermal reactors Bruce |

1980 SC heat backdate
When I built the 3.3SS engine for my 1980 SC, I did the heat backdate and kept the a/c like you are wanting to do. I think I was able to flatten the "pipe", actually made it kind of oval enough for the a/c brackets to fit over it. Just make sure to put the hose and clamp on before installing the a/c mounts.

Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but I have the four pieces assembled for right duct. Planning to do the backdate when I do plugs and wires in the near future. Any difficult attaching the “support” part with engine in place? It looks like this attaches to underside of engine shroud, correct?

Thank you for the tips and tricks, going to start planning out the project this weekend. I guess that is the good thing about being stuck at home more time to work on the Porsche
