First time help: Vacuum Testing
 

Hi,

I bought a vacuum guage and want to test vacuum on my 2.7. I've never done it before and was wondering how I would go about doing it, where to hook it up, numbers to look for, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok. Hooked the guage up to the vacuum hose coming out of the intake to the WUR and the Dizzy. Wasn't getting much of a vacuum at all (just maybe 3-4 in/hg on idle. Sprayed some carb cleaner (!) on the left side of the airbox/intake area and the pressure went up into the 20 in/hg range with increase in idle.

I'm assuming there's a leak, probably in the airbox. When I bought the car it had no pop-off valve. I had since installed one, looking real hard for a crack, but couldn't find one. Somebody said the seam between the upper and lower parts blows out?

Also, a fire started on my SSI, probably due to the caked-in grease. Arrgh!

That is how you test for a leak. You can use other things to test for leaks also. I always use carb cleaner because it is handy. And when you hook up the gauge make sure you are on the intake side of the throttle
