Door speakers for 911 SC

Anyone have experience with good speakers for the factory holes in the front doors of a SC. Hole measures 5.5 inches. Must be flush so factory door panel and grill will remain as is. TIA

I just used the Focal PC130 in my 72.

Nice looking speakers but you have to use their grills, as the tweeter sticks out. Trying to use factory panels.

I used these on my 79, fits fine with factory door panels and factory grilles, I was able to reuse the factory water shield behind the speakers with some minor fiddling.

Thanks for the reply, so those tweeters will fit behind stock door panel?

The Infinity Reference 6532ex fits flush: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R6532EM/Infinity-Reference-REF-6532ex.html

No need to cut the door. 6.5” fits perfectly. From my notes:

- I installed a 10” square foam sound pad behind the speaker to minimize back waves and reverb inside the door cavities, placing it about 1” from the bottom of the door so it wouldn’t soak up any water that might accrue faster than it drains.
- The existing speaker screw holes did not align with the tabs on the new speakers (not surprising; they never do), so I drilled four new holes and used new black self-tapping (#10; used a 5/32 bit for the pilot holes) screws to attach the speakers to the door. Goal was to make it look OE / not leave a mess.
- I used a set of nylon washers to better insulate the metal speaker mounts from the door from a vibration perspective when screwing them into the doors.

Front speakers

Infinity Reference speak 6.5 in for the fronts as well. No door panel fitment issues at all

Perhaps you want to check out parts-express.com? They have a full range of speaker that cover all sorts of applications and dimensions.

I used them in my last interior update and found the ones that were a perfect replacement. The speaker brand I bought was Wavecor.

Good luck.

Edit: I was able to reuse the stock speaker grills - a requirement you stated above.

Stevie,
With the speaker mounted to the metal frame behind the door card, how do you mount the grill?
The speakers I'm familiar, the grill is kinda keyed around the perimeter of the speaker rim.

The speaker grill is attached to the door card, the grill has 4 pins with little snap clamps on them.
