Help Needed with Cruise Control Removal
The cruise control in my 1982 SC has never worked, and I would like to remove it. After reading the Bently manual, and looking at things in the engine compartment I have a couple questions.
1) What do I do with the vacuum tubes? I assume plug them, but what is the best way to do this? 2) When detatching the cable from the throttle arm, what parts come out, and what stay? The cable goes through a metal bracket, and then continues down to where it is attached to a little arm. I assume I detatch the cable from that arm. What about the bracket that the cable goes through right above the arm? Should I take that out too? There are a couple electrical wires attached to something else on this same bracket. I don't know what they are for, and I don't want to break anything. Any help would be very appreciated. Ed |

Find something that snuggly fits. (I found a plastic uniball pen worked well for the big one, and maybe a 10-32 screw for the small hose)2) there are 2 phillips screws that hold the cable-end bracket (arm). .. these come off. (then it's pretty much free) The bracket that hold the "squarish cable adjuster" stays. After you have taken off the cable-end bracket (arm). . .take off the "squarish cable adjuster" thing by squeezing the sides (under the bracket) and push it out. Just curious, what wasn't working on the cruise? . . .was it totally dead, or loosing speed? . . .surging? Oh yeah, you may need to take out the booster-fan to get back to the cruise-servo . . .its really buried back there.

Thanks for the help, Island.
The speed slowly goes down. I haven't tried it in about 5 years, but to my recollection I would lose 5mph for each mile travelled. |
