I’m sure many of you have been wondering “where’s Jonny?” It’s amazing how time flies, and I’ve been meaning to get started on my new build thread but a variety of factors have meant I either didn’t have the time for it or the mental energy, and after a while I just got used to not automatically going straight to the technical forum every time I opened up my laptop. That has started to change, and it’s coincided with me getting neck deep in project work in the past several months. Really looking forward to catching up. There’s lots I need to show you guys!

Honestly I wasn’t even sure I’d do another build thread but it ended up being a really great part of the process. I’ve recently gone back and read that entire journey. It is something I will cherish forever and yes, I have a backup copy of every single page!!! I wouldn’t have finished without all of the help, encouragement, and motivation that I got from all of your participation. Thank you!

In time I will get into more detail but the plan is to make it superficially similar to its predecessor, but a better, lighter, faster, and more capable version. This picture is remarkably close to what I envision (credit goes to autofarm for building this Signal Yellow Backdate):

I was just looking at all the carbon body panels you can get from Tuthill now. They are EXPENSIVE, but they were able to get their 911k down to 1873 lbs.

I do love the 911K. Their quoted weight is with fuel. PHM was 998kg/2200lbs without fuel... my goal for the new project is 800kg/1763lbs (dry).

Their initial showing of the 911K coincided nicely with the arrival of the new project car and had a lot to do with shaping the direction of the new build.

I have nothing but admiration for Mr. Tuthill and his crew, and have no illusions that those panels aren't worth every penny (pound?) but.... based on what I've seen of shipping costs from Germany for panels from another supplier (yes I've been shopping around) we'd be looking at $5,000.00 (probably more) for shipping on top of the $32,500 usd for the panels to do the entire body:

It was when I got it as an essentially unfinished project. I reengineered the suspension geometries and it’s not scary now. Don’t want to sidetrack your new thread here though. If you want more info on it I have a thread about it over at Grassroots Motorsports.

I don't struggle with motivation, but I can feel my inspiration about to go through the roof following this thread!! One guess where I will be logging into every morning for the foreseeable future!?!?!

I see Tuthill offer a carbon ceramic brake package. I’m curious if anyone has found ceramic discs for the 930 caliper?

Excited! This is going to be siiiiiick! One of the best threads on here is your Heavy Metal Build! Love your attention to detail. I mean building that MFI testing station was wild. And based on what you've learned on that build, this next one is going to be amazing. Although, I don't know if I can forgive you for painting over the Ice Green Metallic! Especially a pretty virgin looking narrowbody 76! Wasn't there a more suitable donor? Hate to see flares put on this one.

Easily the best sequel announcement of 2024! Love the trailer and can't wait for the movie ;)

I totally understand the sentiment but let me assure you this car, although somewhat photogenic, is a complete and utter turd.... It's not even ice green metallic (any more). Looks like someone mixed up the paint wrong or simply wanted it to be less green or for all I know it's a Honda or Toyota color...

Basically anything that's been touched on this car is messed up. To put it politely. And normally I'd be willing to cut a PO some slack, but the fact that this wasn't disclosed makes me feel a bit less charitable:

Yes, the car is bent. And whoever yielded that red marker pen knew exactly where and how much.

As they say, buyer beware.

Take the safety wire pliers away from that guy. That's not what they're for!!!

Seeing some of the rouge-neck "fixes" and body distortion, I would not trust anything on the car. It needs a complete strip & rebuild just to fix those issues.

OK I'll admit when I was wrong. Yep first photos were very misleading! :-)
