Help identifying a part
 
While replacing my driver’s side injectors on our new to us ‘84 3.2 I noticed a crumbing sensor or plastic wire housing of some sort. You can see a bit of a green wire but it connects to a black wire that, with a red and white wire route down through the tin. Here’s a a couple of pictures with the item circled.

I’m struggling to even describe it well enough to search. Thanks in advance for your help.

Possibly the O2 sensor connector, which from heat typically crumbles.

Thanks Very much for the advice! Yes, does seem to be the O2 sensor housing/ connector that has crumbled into a yellow mess. I'll work opn the picture posting as well. Sorry about that.

Does it look like this? If so, two of them are position sensors and they crumble too. Kind of a pain to replace just dont mix them up!

Nail polish on one of the gray sets so you know where it goes to.
Not marked, no start, switch connectors. Both same sensors that do different things.
A real pain to change in the car. Bosch BMW sensor work and half price, get reference to order.

There is a little yellow tag on the sensor side and the harness side that id's them, but it could be long gone. I made a couple of notes as to how they were. You are right it is a pain to swap them but possible. I recall a grommet that I fought hard to get back in place properly.

As a reminder so you never forget it, both flywheel sensors are cross-connected on the vertical ramp. Meaning the lower sensor on the flywheel goes to second higher position on ramp, and vice versa.
And of course the highest position on ramp is for the CHT sensor (white connector).
