CDI dead

I recently got a new battery and Daisy would not start. We did a phone/video diagnosis with Jamie Pertuit (Tuit Tech); checked that the carbs are getting fuel, and looked at other stuff,. Jamie asked if the CDI was whining; it wasn't.
It seems that after 52 years, it has gone kaput.
What is the general consensus here on the board regarding CDI repair versus new CDI, new CDI with more advanced electronics in them? If repair is the way, which is the better place, ECUDoctor, Ashlock, any others? For new, Parts Klassik, Ashlock, any others?
Any help is much appreciated...I NEED to drive Miss Daisy!

Systems Consulting was formed in 1985 as an electronic engineering consulting company
specializing in Porsche cars. Initial products included Bosch CDI units, D-Jetronic injection
units, & Bosch electronic relays. Later, Bosch CIS & Motronic control units were included,
e.g. Porsche & BMW fuel injection ECMs (DME repair). We also specialize in hard to find
Porsche parts such as MFI (mechanical fuel injection) & RPM transducers (speed relays).

I have had ashlock repair 2 of mine. Stellar service, good guy. I even sent him back one that I thought still had an issue. It ended up being the green wire. He runs them through a hot box test to ensure even the hottest climates and conditions will not kill it. Lastly, he has his own version of the CDI if you wanted an upgraded version. I simply went with stock refurbishment.

Perhaps he was answering the OP’s question…

“If repair is the way, which is the better place, ECUDoctor, Ashlock, any others? For new, Parts Klassik, Ashlock, any others?”

Read post #6. The reference there repairs CDIs & other Porsche electronics for Porsche dealers and independents in SoCal and all of the U.S.
They are on Porsche's recommended suppliers list. They first designed a CDI in 1968 for 1967 Porsche 912. They provide a 5+ year warranty.

Ashlock repaired my CDI last June. Has worked perfectly since and looks pristine. Recommended.

Yes, but errors in that thread, i.e. check posts#; 5, 23, 25, 30, & 37
All explained in those posts by the original Pelican Parts CDI supplier.

You can do both.

Buy the new fangled CDI unit, some of which may have shiny lights and other fancy features included, probably get those quicker too saving the roundtrip, and send the old to the rebuild vendor of your choice, I have no skin in the game, my guess being they are all equally good for most intents and purposes, speed might be the deciding factor given your urgent need to DRIVE MISS DAISY, you can even open up the busted unit and have a look see, post pics if you do ... we love pics, prior if you're into that stuff. If you do get the new unit, report back as well !

Another option: If you have to spend several hundred dollars to fix or replace your CDI box, consider spending $900 to get a whole new 123 distributor (you can set customized timing curves) with new epoxy ignition coil. It's a much better way to set optimal timing for your engine, and you can ditch the olde CDI box, and points-based distributor. Several folks here have them and swear by them. I just recently ordered one, but it hasn't arrived yet.

If you need one quick and it is a 6pin, you can barrow mine until you get a new one/rebuild yours. Also, if it is a 6 pin you can get up and running super quick with a MSD 5520 for around $200.

If you need a quick one and it’s a 3 pin, I have a spare in NJ. If you need a 6pin, I have a spare in SoCal that can run as a 3 or 6 pin

Both recently refurbished by Bob Ashlock.
