Odyssey pc925 battery

After 2 years battery died. Had battery checked and will not hold a charge. Battery was maintained with Battery Tender Jr. All winter long. Went to take car for a drive on this nice sunny day and no go. Dead battery. Read online not to use Battery Tender on Odyssey batteries. Battery was never disconnected from car. Read that wouldn't be a problem. Anyone else have problems with Odyssey battery PC925

Ive had that battery since 2015, car does not get a ton of use and sits on a tender in the garage. I took the car out last Friday for the first time this season marking 9 years since I installed.

My first PC925 died at 3 years almost to the day. I kept it on a tender recommended by several folks familiar with that particular battery. I then met a rep for Odyssey at SEMA. I told him what had happened. He suggested that I not keep it on a constant tender. Charge it, then unplug it. Then check it once a month. Plug it in for a day then unplug it. I was at 6 years on that battery when I sold the car. I now have twin PC925 batteries in my 72 and charge them on and off as described above.

Mine hasn’t died yet, but it definitely does not hold a charge more than 2 nights if it’s not on the tender. Would love to hear about any other lightweight batteries people have used that last longer.

I've had mine for almost 3 years and never had an issue. I've never placed it on a tender as I am very lazy.

Does the battery tender JR have an AGM setting? AGM batteries require a different charging profile than standard lead acid batteries -- see, e.g. https://www.interstatebatteries.com/blog/how-to-charge-an-agm-battery -- I use a CTEK 7002 (with the agm setting turned on) with my agm batteries, but don't leave it plugged in 24/7. I only top them off with it if/when they've been sitting undriven for over a month. My 911's last AGM battery lasted over 8 years this way.

I bought the NOCO Genius 5 charger today. Going to see if repair mode will revive the battery

I had them installed on my Boxster Spyder and my first one died at 2.5 years and the second one wasn’t holding a charge for more than a couple of days so I had to put it on a tender immediately otherwise it would die. A good charger can bring them back. I sent an email to Odyssey inquiring about a possible warranty situation and their response was that it is not designed to be used on street cars which includes my Spyder and the 964.

I recently transferred it to the 964 and installed a Braille in the Spyder and so far that seems to be ok after 3.5 years of use but overall I’m not impressed and not sure I’ll buy another.

After putting charger on repair mode at 600pm yesterday and at 400am this morning checking on status it was done and in standby mode. I then switched to 12V AGM mode. After 12 hours battery was at 12.3 Volts at 600pm. I then switched it again to repair mode. Seems to be coming back. I will check again tomorrow.

I have the same battery in my car. I was warned by one of the gurus of this hobby, to never let an Odessey battery go dead. He said they’re OK if they never get rundown, but if they run down, they don’t come back very well.

I’ve had really good luck using CTEK chargers on my batteries, most have lasted 7-8yrs. I just installed a pc925 in my car last year so I have a while to figure out.

If you haven’t checked, Odyssey has a recommended method on their site.

I just replaced an Odyssey PC925 that lasted 14 years and 2 cars. I was pretty pleased. I always kept it on a trickle charger when parked.

Was your battery cables connected to battery?

If I'm being asked there was only 2 years when the battery was out of the car. I stored my car for 2 years when I was stationed in Hawaii. The rest of the time (12 years) the battery cables were connected to the battery.

911slant -- battery drain from being connected to car shouldn't be an issue (especially with a trickle charger that's designed to maintain an AGM battery) IF the car's electrical system is otherwise healthy -- i.e. doesn't have a parasitic drain.

My '86 had just such a drain for a while (a failed driver's door switch left the relay that keeps the power window circuit alive until the door's open energized indefinitely, causing my normal sized battery to completely drain within a week). Some smart chargers will interpret a parasitic drain as a defective battery and refuse to charge the battery at all.

Sad news today. NOCO GENIUS 5 charger says battery is bad. Battery would not charge fully. When disconnected battery charger battery would drop volts to 3.85 volts and has stayed there for 2 days now. I believe I need to buy a new battery.

I had 2 of these batteries. First one lasted 6 years, so I bought another one. July 2023 after $325 it lasted 3 months. Had it on a glass mat trickle charger and would only hold 7.5 volts. Amazon refunded me the money. Went to Walmart and bought a 325 amp lead acid one for $79 and it works perfectly. At that price I can buy 3 of them for the cost of the Odyssey .

Did the Walmart battery fit into your Rennline holder?

That was similar to my experience although the first battery lasted about 3 years before it fully died and the second one 9 months. Fortunately I was able to revive the second one and as long as I keep it on a charger it works. Oddyseey, Quality and reliability don’t go hand in hand.

I’m also curious if the Walmart battery was a lighter weight battery or standard.
