New Oil Leak
My '70T 2.2L developed a new oil leak. It seems to be coming from directly under the transaxle crossmember, ahead of the rear wheels. Any thoughts as to what might be leaking? Thanks.

Has the oil been changed or "topped off" lately? Jim

No, Jim, the oil has not been changed recently nor has it been topped off.

Engine or transmission oil? Transmission oil will usually have more of a "sulfur like" odor. Leak possibilities: speedometer cable drive, reverse light switch, transmission shift rod seal (leaks back through rubber boots), transmission fill and drain plugs, transmission vent, transmission guide fork coverplate gasket, and other various gaskets and seal rings on transmission. Any recent transmission service? Jim

Jim: No recent transmission work, but it is definitely engine oil.
