Running Temps??
Hot day, so is the guage...Highway cruise heres the stats, need advisement.
Highway cruise-80mph Ambient Temp- 84.2 F Humidity- 35% 1973 911S Mfi- Experiencing a reading of 230f in these conditions, wanting to learn if this is acceptable or if this requires an investigation. Thanks.... |
That's a "little" high but not unreasonable. Is the timing set right? Had it on an exhaust analyzer lately? A lean condition will cause it to run warm.

The car itself is running well, have my own gunson and have tested with it to get it to run well throughout the range.
I am wondering if maybe my plug selection is the culprit? Not sure what I have in right now, but really shouldn't play a role in oil temps. Lean, probably not, runs too well and as we all know with MFi's running well is more a likely hood of rich than lean. Well, will wait for additional advise, it was a hot day, maybe I have a gauge or sending unit issue rather than other adjustment issues, worth a look into. Thanks!! |
You could confirm oil temps with a pyrometer. See if the gauge and sender are accurate.....

Where could I get a meter as suggested for a reasonable price?? and where would I be pointing towards in order not to get a conflicted reading from within the engine by area.
Could also be the fact that I have no aux oil cooler in this car. Most S's would, but this edition doesn't. I was baffled, but seeing that this was a Canadian delivery car, or maybe it was an option, who know's, but there is none.... Thanks |
I recently bought a pyrometer at radio shack of all places. Cost was 50 dollars. Works good. Trying it out on all kinds of things.
