HELP: car sat for 2 years it won’t start

Hello everyone,
My car sat at a body shop for 2 tears. I tried to start it today but it won’t start. Is there any trick I could do? I feel like it is not getting gas. There is no place to spray fuel into it like a carburetor
I tried to search this forum but I was not sure what the key words were to get a hit.
Please help me to get it start.
Thanks

Let’s start with the basics:

1. What year is the car?
2. Was it running well when parked?
3. How regularly was it driven before it was parked?
4. What have you done to try to start the car? New battery? Drain tank and put in fresh fuel?
5. Does the car crank when you try to start it?
6. Does it turn over at all? Any signs of almost starting?

You have to give us more info. There's more to it
than just turning the key. Especially when it sat for
2 years.

An easy first try might be to spray a whole lot of this stuff on the aircleaner filter. It would be good to see if it sort of fires up so you know the spark side of it is OK. Two years isn't long so tere shouldn't be fuel issues.

I know New Zealand has slightly different fuel to you guys. Ours is from Singapore. But my spare engine had say for about 8 years and sprung into life as soon as it was put into my SC.

The car ran fine before I took it to the body shop and it has not yet run since then.
Yes turning the key, it cranked for a while. Battery seems good still. I have yet to check for spark. Is it just a matter of take out a plug and place it on the head, crank and see if it has any spark? I did put in gas treatment about 5 months back. I will check spark first. If that is good then I will empty the tank and put in fresh gas.

@Bill Douglas: just take out the air filter and spray that stuff onto the air box? Is that what you meant? Thanks

You can spray it two ways:
1. spray for about three seconds into the intake horn on the air cleaner.
2. If you have the air filter off, lift the air metering plate and squirt about 2 seconds up into the rubber boot.

If it fires, you have spark, so no need to remove a spark plug. Then focus on fuel delivery.

Next, if it sat for two years, how did you maintain the battery during that time? Make sure the battery can crank the engine easily.

Start here:

https://cis911primer.com/pages/test_troubleshoot.html

There's also a troubleshooting guide:
https://cis911primer.com/Troubleshooting%20Guide/Notebook%20Spiral.html

This CIS Primer for the 911 is the primarily source to get a first overview and a basic understanding of what you urgently need when troubleshooting a CIS car...especially a lambda controlled CIS like yours is supposed to be.
Saw that your car is an euro equipped car. So here the CIS is quite a bit simpler than the lambda controlled US SCs (less sensors).

Further questions:
* how old is the fuel? Probably elder than the 2 years? 3years and older todays fuel is almost no more ignitable
* rust within the gas tank? This pollutes abd damages the fuel pump for sure (and probably more from the CIS)

It would make sense when you put a video online to let us easier help you as some things can be easier diagnosed when seeing and hearing what the engine makes or not ...

Thomas

Fires up prior to sitting in the shop, if it was mechanically sound
I would suspect you need new battery. Even tho you're getting
12.6v but the cranking Amps is what you need to turn the engine.
Bat acid might a dried up. Barrow a good bat and crank it up.
Good luck.

if the battery has enough power to turn it over it has enough to start it
Id make sure the air plate isnt stuck before spraying crap in there. CIS cars do not like that stuff and it could backfire and blow your box.

1. with no ignition on take out the air filter and gently lift the air plate, the plunger in the FD could be stuck and this would free it up.
2. turn ignition on make sure you hear the whine from the CDi ignition ( it its factory ) .
3. if good, again lift the sensor plate briefly , you should hear the fuel pump run and the injectors spraying ( do this briefly as those injectors are spraying. )
4. if you don't hear anything make sure your fuel pump relay hasn't become dislodged.
5. if you hear them spraying , try to fire it up.

incidentally i parked my SC for 4 years once, fired right up .
