Sport Steering Wheel

I have a sport steering wheel that my father bought years ago, he installed it on our 87 911 but he coould never get the horn to work, here is what I have:

I can get the horn center on but it will not move in or out

I think part of the issue is he never got

Any ideas on what the issue is? I have tried washers to raise the retaining ring but that didn't work.

This thread shows how the Momo Horn Button is installed. Your "should" be similar.

If you ground the horn contact in the Steering wheel column, does the horn work?

You will certainly need a contact. But the spring plunger shown probably wouldn’t work on a later car. You need the ring that is on your current wheel to touch the copper contact that is mounted to the clamshell in the car.

It looks like the hub has the 3 holes drilled and tapped to accept the contact ring.

I have the contact pin coming, I had the longer version that doesn't work with the spacer my dad gave me. I am not sure what the trick is to get the horn pad to move in and out, as it is now it would have to horn going off constantly.

I have the original steering wheel on the car and it works fine.

Thanks again

the long pin, nor the short pin are of no use, those would only work on the pre-impact bumper, longhood cars.

what you need is something like this

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/113415660A.htm?pn=113-415-660-A-OEM&bc=c&SVSVSI=

you can see where the paint is chipped on the new steering wheel hub, where this would mount to your wheel and touch the finger on the horn contact, which is mounted to the plastic clamshell above the steering shaft.

I have a 1973 and not being much help.

I suggest that the Original Poster add a picture of the steering wheel shaft with the current steering wheel removed. Also a lpicture of the spline side of the working steering wheel.

Someone with a similar car should post pictures of the spline side of the steering wheel and what it looks like in the clamshell.

Nice. Now the OP needs to verify what they have vs what they need. The pictures I requested should be helpful.
